  • gc2 too high is bad for putting

having the gc2 too high will cause bad reads for putting. i had called foresight tech support to ask about how height would affect the readings and how high is too high and the guy on the phone, who sounded like he had been asleep at his desk before my call, put me on hold to go ask someone. when he came back he said that there is no height recommendation from foresight. as long as it detects the ball and it reads the shot, it will give accurate readings. this is not true.

normally i have the gc2 sitting in the metal case which puts it 2" above the hitting surface. last week I made a sliding platform based on a post from Sascha1818 but I made mine a little higher at around 2 1/2". there was a thread a while back about raising the gc2 a few inches to get better spin readings so I figured higher might be better. definitely not better... normally when you hit a putt, the gc2 will put out a burst of flashes. the bad reads sounded like one long flash which was louder than normal and the speed and direction were obviously wrong. at first I thought it was my flash going bad so I swapped it out but the results were the same. I lowered the gc2 by removing the feet which dropped it down 3/4". I would get some good reads but still some bad. I tried playing with the ball position but I was still getting bad reads here and there. when I removed the sliding platform and put the gc2 back at 2", everything went back to normal.

Did they say they would bill you $500 for the phone call? 😃

I was waiting for someone to ask for my name or serial number before answering any questions. The guy was probably groggy from his nap and forgot he was supposed to check if I was registered.

Don't they say the max is 2"? I know Keither50 has expirimented. He suggested 7/8. Mine is about there.

Is that 7/8" above the hitting surface inside the protective case? The case with feet screwed all the way has the gc2 sitting up about 1 1/2".

Bottom of GC2 7/8 above surface. No cradle.

Once you get above 2 inches, the SA can occasionally be way off. I have seen it as high as 47 degrees...... which would be quite the trick shot. If mine is too low, the SA has a right bias. 7/8 " seems to work. Please note when I say occasionally .... I mean like one shot out of 10 or 20 shots. SA seems to be the hardest thing to measure accurately,100% of the time. If you watch some youtube videos comparing launch monitors to trackman, you will see what I mean.

ok thanks. when I had it too high, I definitely saw SA in the 40's for a few putts that I hit relatively straight. it did not have the same problem with full shots. I hit several 7i's and everything seemed to work fine. It was only the putts that I had trouble with. I have to have mine in the metal case for now because of my three little kids, so I will deal with a little SA bias for now. thanks for the info.
