GC2 Protee Confusion - Please help!!

First off, I would like to say hello to everyone here! I've been reading this forum for a while and found a lot of useful info. Yet, I'm still confused about using GC2 and Protee.
I own a GC2 with FSX software ,but I would love to play Augusta which it seems to be possible with Protee. Here is what I don’t know: What do I really need to buy?? When I read the forum threads, I can see references to Protee 2.0, The Golf Club and GSX (what is that?) What is the interaction between these three pieces?

Also to further confuse myself, when I go to Golf Simulator Store, both products: ‘ProTee Golf 2.0’ and ‘The Golf Club Simulator + ProTee Golf 2.0’ display a message that ‘This software is NOT compatible with Foresight GC2’.
Any help clarifying would be appreciated.

GSX is a utility that receives the bluetooth data from your GC2. It then passes it along to TGC. All that you need to buy is The Golf Club Simulator (GSX and the Protee golf interface come with it and are needed to run it). TGC has several recreations of Augusta called "Magnolia National". You need to keep in mind that they are created by game players with the course designer that is available. They are good, but in general not as accurate as FSX courses. If you just want to see the courses before buying the $1k simulator version, you can buy the PC game TGC for around $30. ProTee Golf 2.0 is a separate older simulation software.

The not compatible disclaimer is for legal reasons I believe. TGC definitely works with GC2.

I disagree with you on this one Andy. I've been to Augusta Many times as well as a lot of the TGC courses. The good ones are super accurate. Not all are but the ones by the top designers are dead on IMO.

I didn't mean to say that the courses aren't good, only that you are relying on people who play the game to make them as opposed to doing a licensed recreation. The only famous courses that I have played are harbour town and Torrey pines. I have never been to Augusta. In TCG there is no question that the courses are recognizable but at least those two have some differences. Like 18 on Torrey is missing the water short of the green and harbour town doesn't play as tight as I remember. To be fair I don't have fsx but there are lots of people on here who say those recreations are extremely accurate. I think spending the $30 for the pc game is a small price to pay to scope out the courses that you are interested in and make sure you are happy with them before you buy the simulator version

Going along with that logic anyone that is “licenced” is more qualified and produces better than someone without one. In reality that’s simply not true. I have been a hobby carpenter for 20 years. I don’t have a licence or certification but I create items that most who are certified couldn’t. IMO, calling something licences doesn’t entail its better. It’s similar to the line in Tommy Boy, “I can take a dump in box and guarantee it but you’ll only have a guaranteed box of crap”. The logic is simple. Certififing something doesn’t make it better. It only makes it licenced.

I’m not slagging FSX because its good software. I’m just saying that just because Royce or CLV aren’t licenced doesn’t mean their designs are thoughouly created and really really good. Trust me. I know these courses and the top designers. They are really really good.

Doesn’t FSX’s Pebble Beach cost close to as much as TGC in its entirety?

Agree on harbor town, i've played it and i don't remember it being nearly that tight as well. And not having the water on 18 at torrey stinks as that's a pretty big feature of the hole.

So how do you know which recreations are good? I would assume that there might be a few Augusta versions - how do we know which one is the closest to the real thing?

The big issue is designers all moved onto tgc2. If you look at a search for ProTee a lot of rcrs are pretty good. Trial and error.

So when we get moved to TGC2, we will then be able to see all their creations at that time correct?

We’ll get all of the new courses and features. There are some good ones and having water at multiple levels fixes problems like no water on 18 at Torrey Pines
