  • HMT/GC Quad Sticker Placement

I was just watching one of Rick Shiels' videos on Titleist Vokey wedges and interestingly I saw that he had positioned his stickers, namely the middle two, quite low down on the face. This is contrary to the Foresight HMT instructions which advocates 6-7 grooves up...

I'm quite confused as Rick is a professional with a lot of experience with GC2 HMT and GC Quad, therefore he must be doing this for a reason. Does anyone here have any idea why he might be doing this?

Here's a link to the video in question (Fast forward to 7:10 for a clear view of what I'm talking about):

I would say there are a couple reasons for doing that, and I’ve thought about doing it myself at times.

    1) I’m not so sure the exact middle of the face is the best place to strike a ball, so if you don’t want it to tell you that your strike is 5mm low when that is where you want it, you move the dots and it may adjust that accordingly. I haven’t tried it, but that was my thought.

    2) Perhaps on a wedge, these dots get in the way if the face is open. That’s why I only use one dot on my wedges (at east my 60°).

I spoke with Foresight when I got my new clubs back in September about the dot placement.
Basically my 3 and 4 iron are much more blade like, and as a result have much fewer grooves. If I were to put my middle dot between the 6 / 7th groove, then it'd almost be touching the top dot!

Their advice was to put the middle dot in line with where the centre of the ball should strike. The supplied sheet is purely a guide, and covers most applications. There will always be exceptions.
My wedge dots (Callaway MD Forged) are almost the same positions as in the video - maybe a groove higher.
