  • Bluetooth enabled updated for GC Quad in ipad app

iPad app just updated saying “BLE support added for GCQ”.

Now in the app, there is another icon on the top right with bluetooth and wifi logo in the same picture.
i am guessing it is just for support? It’ll be nice if i can at least use an ipad app using bluetooth like gc2.

in the meantime, why is the ipad app in a stalemate? This has so much potential like a trackman ipad app which evolved so much.
fsx ipad app still shows total yard always lower than carry and you have like zero customization to the data.
Something that fsx needs to hurry and catch up on.

Try other sims. So is now gc quad connected to ipad app using BT and works fine? Its not just for support then?

I live in New York and have a outside setup so with the snow today I cannot hit anything outside ,but I did try indoors and the app worked using the Bluetooth only with WiFi disabled. I also don’t own other sims to try

Awesome. At least now I can use my wifi on my ipad for internet connection at the same time gc quad is connected. Where do you live in NY?

Did you mark a little shield for your quad? I hadn’t really thought of that, although the thing is so well made, not sure a hit would matter.

For me the cost was totally worth it as I am taking care of my elderly mother so getting on the course is hard and this gives me the opportunity to play and do some analysis on my game on my down time
            4 tarps @$30
Optoma GT 1080 Darbee short throw projector @750
            Terra shield projector enclosure $255
            10x10x10 enclosure $410
            outdoor turf rug $100
            computer $1300
            truestrike mat $750
            misc $150

so total a little over $20000 including QcQuad

Sounds awesome. When I move my house I was also thinking about buying a net like yours. This helps.

Bluetooth is enabled through the app but the GCQ does not "broadcast" the signal. Once you connect THROUGH the app, you can see the GCQ as a saved device under bluetooth settings in the ipad. My question is, how do I get my computer to find this hidden broadcast to connect to the quad via bluetooth?

I have a feeling there could be a workaround in enabling the BT by using an iPad.

I'm not sure if it will help, but I have used a bluetooth hardware development kit from Silicon Labs. They have a phone app called "Blue Gecko." When you download the app it has a function that scans for bluetooth activity and shows devices that don't necessarily show up under available bluetooth devices in the phone settings menu. You don't have to buy the kit to download the free app.

Another way to go about it would be to use a packet sniffer and wireshark. You would still connect the GCQ to the app and then listen in on the data that is being sent to your ipad. Then you would need a program to forward that on to your simulator software. I haven't used this but it sounds like it might work.
Interested in learning how Bluetooth Low Energy works down to the packet level? Debugging your own BLE hardware, and trying to spot where something is going wrong? Or maybe you're ...

That all assumes that they haven't encrypted the data though

You are telling too many secrets Andy lol. Foresight might hate you for that and start working on the encryption as we speak!

Yeah, I probably would not use 3rd party software, but I would certainly appreciate the option of doing so. If we can’t find a workaround, I really think Foresight should give the option of enabling us to do it. They are concerned about losing out on the proprietary software sales, but making BT enabled only if you own FSX or something would keep everyone happy and likely create more sales for them as there are many more who would buy the Quad if they had the software options.

Some just like using what they are used to.

Doesn't FSX come with a Quad purchase?
If so, why would they care at that point what software you would want to play ? They already have your 16k! Companies like this piss me off. The tech is clearly built in and available to use but they lock it down for no reason other than hoping to get a buck or two out of your pocket later on for a course or some other game mode they try to peddle on you.

FSX is technically included, but you are able to buy a quad for less if you already have FSX. Someone with a GC2 who wanted to upgrade, for example. The $18k price is for a quad and FSX.

Sorry, I should have been a bit clearer. I got the Quad for the price 16.5k with FSX included. Not FSX 2018 and I don't have putting. I believe for me, it is $500 upgrade for FSX 2018 or $2500 for putting. I am sort of annoyed that it is extra, but I didn't know about those when I purchased, so it is hard to be too mad. I am not sure what the pricing or bundling is now. This was last year.

Although they're permanent upgrades, I do think putting analysis especially is a bit too much at $2500. Even Trackman software comes at $1000.

This is what I could never understand with them already requiring customers to buy FSX from the outset.

Looks like they want to continue to hammer everyone with a recurring revenue model in the form of things like $500 updates for "new" versions that are actually minor facelifts.

Very much looking forward to the day when there is actual competition.

Hey guys - reviving this old thread. Anything special that one needs to do to get my iPad running FSX mobile to connect to my GCQ through bluetooth? The app crashes to desktop when I try.

I posted about my issue here: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-via-bluetooth

Nothing special. The BT connection is just really unstable in general, I use wifi for the fitting app and FSX on PC.
              Working...
