  • GC2 LCD replacement

I had someone contact me about replacing the screen on their GC2 because the old one was cracked. I have managed to track down the supplier and am discussing buying some from them. They normally have a minimum order of 500 screens, but I think I will be able to do a one-time buy of a smaller quantity. I was planning on buying one or two spares to keep on hand, but wanted to check if that is something that anyone else needs repaired before placing an order. I think the cost would be in the $100-$150 range (Foresight quotes $1000).

There is still some uncertainty as to whether it is something you could do yourself or if you would have to mail me your GC2 to have it replaced because a cable is soldered into place on the display. I will have to see if I can find the cable and add it on, or if I would have to unsolder it from the broken screen and re-attach it to the new one.

If you have a broken screen that you would like replaced, please comment on this thread in the next day or two because I will be placing an order soon. I won't ask for payment up front, but please don't say you want a screen and then back out because I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of screens either.

Does someone here have a WeChat wallet for paying for things in China or a DHL reverse payment account? I’m trying to buy some screens and this is the first time I’ve come across a vendor who doesn’t want PayPal, credit card, or a bank wire as a form of payment. I don’t think I can get a WeChat wallet since I’m outside of Asia, and I don’t ship enough overseas to get a commercial DHL account. If you have one of those and PayPal and would be willing to help, please PM me. I will cover any fees and include a little extra for your time. Or if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

      Hi Andy,
Just wondering if you ever moved forward with getting the LCDs?
I don’t have an immediate need but see dust under my screen and also previous owner must have had a metal case as I can see the screen has scratches in the pattern of the cut outs. So if it would be $100\150 I would probably go for it at some point just to have a cleaner looking machine.

I do have LCDs, but in your case I don't think you need one. The plastic that has scratches is actually a second layer above the LCD. I would try some plastic polish on it and see if you can get it smoothed out. And the dust that you see is between the LCD and the plastic piece I'm referring to. The LCD is a pain to remove, but if you do, then you could wipe out the dust.

My LCD screen is experiencing some burn out which makes the display almost unreadable. Has there been any successful replacement of the LCD. I contacted Foresight in Asia and they said the GC2 has been discontinued, so they does have anymore replacement parts. I had no luck finding the manufacturer of the screen. 😢

Hi Andy, it’s definitely a physical burn in on the LCD. Adjust the contrast doesn’t work. If you could please PM me about buying the screens.
