Dealing with a GC2 with (likely) a bad battery pack. I noticed it uses a 3-wire connector. Anyone know what the 3rd wire is for? Is there a thermistor (temp sensor) or a redundant '+' wire? or something else?

Two grounds? I don't think so based on the voltage readings - but those are hardly going to be reliable for a dead pack.Comment

Based on the datasheet for the battery charging IC, the third wire goes to a 10k NTC (negative temperature coefficient) thermistor. Basically it is a resistor whose resistance decreases as temperature increases. It is a safety precaution so that if the battery heats up the charging IC can know to stop charging it. They could have substituted a regular 10k resistor which doesn't provide any protection. So the red wire is the positive battery and black is negative battery. The thermistor goes between the middle (white) wire and negative battery (black).Comment
