FSX2018 - Simulator Setup Tool not working

Hi. Try to set the offset with the Simulator Tool. I have used - as recommended in other threads - the standard values and only change the DX value. I need about a 1 foot offset (to the right). I have tried at least 50 different values, in feet, inches and meters. Always the same behavior: It seems the system only knows 2 values: No offset - for values up to DX 4.99 Feet. And then quite a bit offset (about 4 to 5 feet, from DX values of 5.0 feet and higher. The offset is not changing linear with the DX value. Appears to be either a bug or a very bad solution. Could anybody try to confirm this? I use the Simulator Setup Tool version that came with the FSX2018 package.

    Best. Max

It is a little buggy. Make sure you adjust the values with FSX CLOSED!

Make sure you run the app as Administrator - I forgot how much offset I have I think its around 1 or less

I did close FSX and I was running it as Admin (otherwise it does not let you save the new values). Strange thing is, it is (at some point) doing the offset. Unfortunately only in one huge increment - and in between it is not doing anything. So I can enter 1, 2, 3 or 4 feet for DX - the aim line always stays dead center. I enter 5 feet as DX - and the line jumps right, about 5 feet. So it seems it is working somehow, but unfortunately not as intended. ?

If you put the dx at 5 feet and then start playing with the image width you will see the line moving left or right. Go from there.
            PITA but it works.

There are several solutions to this problem. 1 Try to run as an administrator. 2 Missing environment files such as C++. Try to repair the computer system and save the tool settings.

Hi Benjamin. Not an computer expert, but 1 I did. Regarding 2: It is a brand new machine with new Win10 and then installed FSX2018 with all components. The Sim Setup tool is running. How do I check if I have the required C++ files and how would I "repair" them? Thanks.

Any idea how much to change the width values? I tried 3 feet in the one and the other direction....not really helping. I do keep height unchanged, correct?

Try to change 4/5/6/7 feet both ways you will see a difference. It only effects the line, nothing else changes. It might not get you perfect but should bring you close.

Maybe this will help? Here is my setup:Note that it's the size of your image and not necessarily the size of your frame. DZ is how far back your LM is, DX is how much to the side from center your LM is. DY is how tall your mat is. Hope that helps!

Make sure to click SAVE and do so with FSX closed, then close the tool and launch FSX.

Someone said it needs to be admin, but I've never needed that.

Thanks. I do get all this. The tool is running, I am in Admin mode and I know what the different values are supposed to do. It is just the software seems to not to receive the values properly or seems to interpret them wrongly. I am able to influence the "output" via the tool - unfortunately only in increments of either zero or 5 foot offset....

When I opened the tool to take this screenshot, I accidentally left it open and started FSX and when I did so, FSX did not use any of the values.

Foresight does have a tech support number or you can try emailing them.

BTW: Is there an official way to communicate with foresight on their buggy software. If possible online / email and not phone? Do they respond? Do not see a lot of value of always getting redirected to sales reps...

Do you get 5 foot increments when changing image width? (after you set dx to 5-6 ft)

Will test that later at home.

This workaround is not working for me. I have to put "Width" at 45 feet to get the aim line offset enough. At 10 foot height, this completely distorts the view and is not workable. Foresight needs to fix this.

I have a few new bugs with the latest FSX2018 version. In Range mode, the sim erratically changes the distance to the pin by itself, changes the club and aims in the completely wrong direction. Very awkward.

I have seen this issue, and others where the ball stops mid flight and all you can do is exit back to the main menu, I only happens when I hit another ball which the gc2 registers whilst the last shot is still in flight..

To change to off-set you must open the Simulator Set-up Tool as Administrator. You do this by right clicking on the Simulator Set-up Tool before you open it. It really works perfectly. If it does not work you should contact support@foresightsports

So. Finally fixed. Had to remove all FSX software components from my computer (incl. a lot of manual stuff, that did not deinstall properly). After then reinstalling everything, it worked again. Foresight said via email, that it might have been an old/broken version of the setup tool, that did not properly got changed with the FSX2018 install. Whatever, now it works. Thanks.
