  • Buying a pre-owned GC Quad

Hi. I am considering upgrading my GC2+HMT+FR1 setup and buying a pre-owned GC Quad from a local shop. Just had a couple of questions regarding this.

If I want to have HMT club data, I need to ensure the unit is keyed (software upgrade) to have the club software? Does the same apply for the putting if it comes with it? How does Foresight know a particular unit has club data or not?

Also how does FSX work? I read that you had to buy FSX to buy a Quad so I think most people would have the FSX Software to include. Do I have to pay Foresight to officially transfer the software to me in order to use it, or do you only have to pay Foresight if you want your unit officially registered with them? Then how does the 2018 version work? If the previous owner doesn't have 2018 do you pay more to foresight to then upgrade to 2018?

    Thanks in advance.

Get the serial number and call Foresight. They will tell you what the unit has.

its a $1k transfer fee which should include transferring the unit to your name as well as FSX, assuming nothing has changed....

id recommend asking if they can include the upgrade to FSX18 in your $1k. It’s worth asking, otherwise it’s another $500 for the upgrade.

Chances es are it does not come with putting. It has to already have FSX18 to have putting, I believe.

Thanks. Do all Quads come with the software as an automatic so if I get my hands on a Quad its an automatic $1000 to activate the software? Or is it possible to buy a Quad and then Foresight say that there is no software?

Also is it required to pay the $1000 to transfer or can you not transfer and just stay unregistered with Foresight and still play FSX?

All Quads are supposed to have software, but who knows. Perhaps someone who upgraded from a GC2 could have bought one without it since they already had it. You can find out by calling Forewight and I recommend doing so.

In order to not transfer, the person selling would have to give you his or her login info. You would need to register to buy anything or get any service.

Every working FSX software has a 16-digit activation given by email at the time of purchase so it can be plugged in at the first setup and auto reference everytime the program is opened. When I bought FSX18 I had to give Foresight the code for my previous FSX so they could deactivate it. Otherwise, I could have played both.

If you buy a quad from someone with FSX, ask if they have this activation code. It's on the computer files. Unless I'm mistaken, I could play FSX anywhere if I deactivated my home FSX first and plugged in the code on another computer with FSX. Anyone can create a free FSX live account and it's not necessary to play the game - just to keep track of personal stats.

Unless a quad is different than GC2 somehow it may be possible to fly under the radar without transferring until you need service from FS on the quad.

I misread this and almost blew a gasket thinking Foresight was charging existing licensees of FSX $1K to transfer from GC2 to GC Quad. I shouldn't give them any ideas.
