I am a novice to a degree but want to put in face on cameras for my indoor golf studio. I have approximately 5 feet from the wall to the ball for both right and left handed golfers. Would love plug and play with usb 3.0 if possible. Saw some post about the an "ov2710"? Any suggestions would be great, not looking to spend nearly what Foresight suggests.

I have two ov2710.
Ordered them with default 60 fps 1280x720. And for the price they are really good.

I wanted to bump this thread. I am looking for two cameras and definitely want some sort of wide angle shot. I see people recommending ov2710, when I google this it looks like a circuit board with a camera attached. How have you guys wall mounted these? Or placed on tripods? I have a small garage 10x20' and I would like one to face my side (wall mounted) and one to go behind me (probably on tripod since I don't know how I will be able to attach it to my garage door). Thanks in advance.
Also any links to purchase would help.

I recommend one steup-up camera (although it is more pricier). It is still 120fps (in reality both OV2710 and new ones are still 100fps) but at 720p resolution (vs 480p) AND it's a global shutter now (vs rolling shutter) which makes a difference especially at impact due to showing less blur in shaft. I changed it and it's not perfect or high end but it's definitely better than OV2710. Price is at around $100/camera including shipping to CONUS (vs $50 now on OV2710). After this, you probably have to shell out at least $300-400 minimum. There is definitely price difference between the two but I don't regret it as I didn't like the blur at impact with the golf shaft with OV2710. If you want the product and referral PM me and I'll let you know!Last edited by LEO MODE; 08-18-2019, 07:24 PM.

I found the Kayeton 120fps camera for FSX2020 to work the best - $85 online. I have since upgraded to IDS cameras for better picture quality, however, FSX2020 really cannot handle these cameras very well (IDS 3140 Rev 2). The IDS cameras are very tricky to set-up in FSX, and [FSX] almost steps-down the graphics of the camera. It made my $700 IDS camera look pretty much the same as the Kayeton camera! Based upon my experience, the sub-$100 cameras seem to work the best with FSX software. If you want to use higher-end cameras (e.g. IDS, Flir, etc.) you then need to look at different software like Swing Catalyst or V1 (I hear Kinovea is good too). Here is the Kayeton camera - for the cost it works well (simply plug and play). And, I believe this is the camera that Foresight suggests if you contact them directly.
Note: I upgraded the lens that came with the Kayeton camera (much better than the stock lens) - see link below:
Final note: the higher-end the camera you buy, the more lighting you will need. The Kayeton camera certainly needs some light to work best, but nothing like high res, high fps cameras. After purchasing 2x IDS cameras, I installed roughly 15,000 lumens of light surrounding the hitting area ... and I could still use more!

Hey Gman17. The date of your comment shows 10/25 but the forum notified me of your message over the TDay weekend. Sorry if the post is from October! I currently use Juno LED track lights but I dot suggest them for high fps cameras - way too much flickering with LEDs on slow-motion replay. If you are using sub-$100 cameras you will be fine. The flickering issue seems to only apply once you get above 120fps. If you want to avoid flickering entirely, the best I can find is DC voltage photography lights. They are LED but run off of DC so no flickering - tons of options on Amazon or photography websites. The only rub is you have to mount them on tripods or studio light bars - they cannot be mounted like you would a track light or can light. Hope this helps!

Following this thread. I think for the price I will give the Kayeton cameras a shot - did you go color or B&W? Also, curious as to why you upgraded (blur, resolution, clarity ??)? Also - how did you mount them?Last edited by jasonreg; 10-21-2020, 07:18 PM.

I opted for the color version. Some guys on the forum claim that mono is better (less light required, etc.) but I have no personal experience with B&W. I felt that the $85 camera was just not good enough (too much blur at swing transition and impact). However, I also did not realize that FSX could not handle the IDS cameras - I never planned on purchasing Swing Catalyst but I had no choice once I bought the cameras and realized that FSX could not handle them properly. I mounted them on tripods since my room is combo - SIM and video game/movie room. The room is really not set-up for permanent mounted cameras.

I have the IDS 3140's also and use SwingCatalyst. Don't have FSX so cannot speak to it -- but SC is pretty slick, though the $50/mo price kind of sucks.
Here's what I've been able to achieve in terms of quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VKh...ature=youtu.be

Yes, the $50 per month really stinks but the SC software is absolutely 'legit'. I have used V1 a little bit before - SC seems even superior to that software which I always felt was one of the best. FSX does a great job with the sub-$100 cameras - well worth the small investment IMHO. Just know in advance that it's an $85 camera - there will be limitations!

I think FSX can handle two but not sure (I upgraded to FSX and a GC2/HMT since I originally made this post). I tried my cams with it but it was terrible when compared to SwingCatalyst. As Carl Johnson noted -- FSX has limitations.
My cams are IDS not Kayeton, but the face on is only about 4 feet away. The DTL is probably 7-8 feet.

Yes, there are issues with IDS and FSX but you are able to have two and it works...could be better, but it does work. I have a cheapo DTL cam that I'm getting about 100fps and used to use an IDS cam but was always hit or miss and now have a Imaging Source Cam that I get 238 FO with and it's fantastic. Interface could still be better and FSX could process the vid more quickly, but it does work.
Distance away depends on your lens.

Can someone explain to me the function of a camera? Is it for recording your swing? Is it a necessary purchase? In the process of building a sim and don't want to miss anything

Ah, on the lens. I have a decent sized room, but it is also my bedroom - the part where the simulator is, is 19' x 13.5', but the bed restricts the hitting area to where I would be at most 4-5' from the sidewall and maybe a touch less to the back wall. How do I determine the lens specs for a desired distance? I assume that with optical zoom I would have a range of distances? How is that calculated.Originally posted by Baller View PostYes, there are issues with IDS and FSX but you are able to have two and it works...could be better, but it does work. Sorry for the newbie questions - I have no clue.
Thanks!

That's what this forum is for...asking what you don't know. I think a fixed lens is fine, but I don't like 'em. I tend to change things up here and there and I like a zoom lens. The ones I've been using are inexpensive, have good image and zoom and when I compare to pricier lenses, I still like the picture better...
I have a couple of these and highly recommend them:
