  • Have GC+HMT - if I bought a "ball data only" GC Quad ... Do I get club data?

Would I be able to get club data in my FSX 2018 software (since it is already set up for club data)? Or does something need to be unlocked in the firmware of the GC Quad itself to get club data?

Would you be asking this because you saw the Quad for sale on eBay? Not positive but thought someone mentioned that the GC Quad is locked to the country it was purchased in. The unit needs to connect to the internet every few weeks and location is validated by IP address. The eBay listing says it has a European plug which threw up a red flag when I saw it.

But to answer your question Foresight charges an additional $4,000 to unlock club data.

You can pay extra money to unlock club data, putting analysis and region geo block. For the plug u can just get a generic US plug from amazon. But that ebay price is not that any cheaper. Better to buy US one considering you have to pay additional $2.5k or something for geo unlock.

Yeah - that is the one. I didn’t think about the geo-lock.

Yeah -- I should probably wait. I am still wanting to upgrade (economically) to a GCQ from my GC2+HMT setup. And I almost never see GCQs available used.

Strange question. Seems pretty self explanatory.

Yes. There are two ways, hardcoded...your router is setup running the VPN so ANY device that goes through your router wired or wireless will have an IP range from the Country your routers VPN is connected to.
Softcoded, does not use your router, a VPN app is installed one very device you want to connect to a VPN server, e.g. windows PC, iphone, iPad, Mac/ pc laptop
you can simply turn the VPN on/off

So use your laptop with a VPN app ( or use windows setup to connect to a free one) select country, connect quad to laptop via Ethernet.

not got a quad, so don’t know if it geo checks over wifi as well, I wouldn’t use Wi-fi to pass geo check because it will be going through your router (not on VPN) and not the laptop with VPN

                  hope that explains it.....hehe

i have my router hard coded.

But to answer your question Foresight charges an additional $4,000 to unlock club data.
If we are talking about the same almost-new, near-mint GCQuad that was for sale on EBay before Christmas, it included the club data add-on, the putting analysis add-on, FSX software, Pebble Beach add-on course, and a GCQuad backpack. The total cost to buy this exact same package new from Foresight would be $21,300.

                    GCQuad: $11,000
                    Club data add-on: $4,000
                    Putting analysis add-on: $2,500
                    FSX software: $3,000
                    Pebble Beach add-on course: $500
                    GC Quad backpack: $200
                    Shipping: $100

                    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F163442548906

I was the high bidder on this GCQ for a few days, but in the final day the bidding shot up and exceeded my predetermined budget of $13K. It ended up selling for $15,000 flat with free shipping.

Now I’m kicking myself for not bidding as high as $15,500 to see if I could have got it. I ended up spending $13,100 for a refurbished GC2 + HMT, FSX, a plastic protective shield, and shipping. So I only spent $1,900 less than what this almost-new GCQ, loaded with add-ons, sold for on eBay. If I would have spent the extra money to win the bidding on this Quad, for the additional $2 grand, I would have had a Quad instead of GC2/HMT, the putting analysis software, and a backpack.

Anyway, $15K was a really sweet deal. That’s $6,300 (30%) less what the same package would cost thru Foresight.

I was looking at the other unit (that was just a unit). But it was not actually in the US (was being shipped from Europe) so I passed. Not sure who bought it ....

But at least now with GC2 you have other options for sim if you so choose. Not so with the quad.
