  • Questions about FSX

    1. Foresight needs to fire whoever decided on the commentary for FSX. If I have to hear “That’s a hooky Louie” one more time, I’m gonna strangle someone. In FSX settings I turned off commentary but I’m still getting commentary. Any idea how to turn it off for real?

    2. How do you read then putting grid? I see the balls moving horizontally and vertically, but is there any way to measure that and convert into a adjusted putting line and speed. For example in WGT, the balls roll at angles on the grid, so you putt at a similar angle to compensate for the break.

    3. Once on the green and in grid view, Is there any way to chang the viewing to move your view around 360 degrees and also view from above with the grids lines?

    4. When putting with a break, do you change your aim point in FSX and if so how, or do you putt at an angle to the GC2 to compensate for the break?

5.. What does turn on “Auto periscope” in settings do? No mention st all of this in the FSX used guide or anywhere on their website. The FSX user guide is extremely limited and doesn’t cover a lot of items.

So far I’m not impressed with FSX at all. Free WGT on my iPad is far better in terms of graphics and game play and it’s not $3,000. Also the practice modes and range in FSX are extremely limited and lack imagination. Again WGT is far superior. FSX should at least add a Top Golf type driving range and add a lot more creative and variety of drills. For $3,000 we deserve so much better. All FSX has for practice is a simple driving range and a skill drill which is a driving range where the distance to the flag changes. Boring and unimaginative.

So so far FSX is a major disappointment. I want a refund.

This is great information that you are sharing for people who are trying to determine what way to go and what to purchase. Thank you.

      1. It turns off for me. You could try setting the volume all the way down. Maybe try turning it off, closing and restarting
      2. Practice with it - it's pretty straight forward but does take a little practice to get down
      3. No
      4. Personal preference. You can use the left/right arrow keys to move left/right. I putt at the needed angle unless there is severe break. Just easier not having to use the keyboard.
      5. Auto Periscope will do the periscope feature at the start of a shot (up arrow key). Just gives an elevated view for a second or two.

Spend some time with the software and you'll start to realize what it is. Yeah, it's over priced but that's life. Foresight is going for realism and not a game. You need to be the creative one just like you would be IRL. You can drop a ball anywhere on a course that you own. BTW, you can build your own skill challenges so you aren't limited to the default ones. Nothing earth shattering there but it's something. Personally I don't use them much.

Little time saver tip for more complex custom skill challenges. If you have a little programming experience or understand copy/paste and some logic! I build my more complex skill challenges for weekly performance of students e.g. BLOCK challenges or RANDOM challenges by directly creating the XML files, saves loads of time.... C:\Program Files (x86)\Foresight Sports Experience\Challenges

Some interesting parameters in their that might be used for future (pro/am/woman settings!).

Great tip!!! I had no idea you could do it that way. Care to share any more? Do you have the xml for the Foresight skills challenge? I don't see that in there. I'd love to copy and be able to add a driver skill in some of my custom ones but don't see that.

          Thanks!

Make a custom one “baller50yards” then it will create baller50yards.xml in the folder open it and check the formatting.
We use random tests over 20 shots at different circles it could take me 15 mins to create in FSX, took about 1 minute direct in xml.

Just scan the whole directory for xml files. Clubs.xml directly set clubs up, much faster, make a backup of any original file though in case U miss a character in the xml schema and it throws an error.

If I get time I might build a user interface to speed edit any laborious routines.

I haven't had long to play with FSX yet. Just got my GC2 a week before Christmas. I was playing with just a net an 50" tv until my screen showed up. I got the projector up Tuesday night. What a difference. I was trying to drop a ball on a course in practice last night and couldn't figure out how to. Any help would be great. This is my first golf sim so I can't compare the software to anything else. I think I am going to get TGC 2019 when it is released (mostly to play Augusta lol). I can tell you that it is very addictive, glad it's at my house and not a friends.

Right click on Mini map, drops the ball anywhere on the course.

I was just messing around, EricOtown , and found where the sound files are. If you want to delete the Hookielau one (or move or rename so that doesn't play...something to try), it is here:
          C:\Program Files (x86)\Foresight Sports Experience\System\Sounds
