    FSX2018 Setup with offset/projector

Hi everyone, This is the greatest forum!

I'm setting up a sim in my garage and everything is on order save for the projector. Here's what's cooking:

    -GC2/FSX2018
    -10.5w x. 8h screen/enclosure from Carl's (custom 4 foot enclosure rather than 5).
    -Fiberbuilt 7/4 studio mat.
-MSI laptop with GSX 1070, 16mb RAM, 512gb SSD.
-Thinking about the Optoma Darbee 1080 short throw.

Based on my measurements, I'll have to hit on a 15-18" offset to comfortably miss the wall at my back with a driver. I plan to hit 10 ft. from the screen, but I think the Darbee will have to be mounted about 7-ish feet from the screen on center.

I have three questions if anyone can help:

    1. Is this considered a "big" offset that will be detrimental, or is 15-18" going to be OK?
    2. Considering the offset will the projector be in the way of a follow through? I've heard of Keystoning. Does that mean I can mount the projector off center and still cast a straight projection?
    3. My screen is obviously 4:3. I assume there is a way to set up FSX to fill the screen without losing the sides of the picture, right?

Thanks a million to anyone who can answer any of my questions. I'm beyond stoked to get things up and running.

    I have a darbee1080

ideally you do not want to use keystone, unless you have to. It reduces the image size and quality. Depending on budget, you can look at projectors that have lens shift, so you can offset the projector physically horizontally and vertically without any image size / quality loss, use the website projector central for researching, an example would be Optoma wu515ST, which can be shifted 10% either left or right off center but still supplies a central image.

Due to room setup and driver length, most people have an offset to the right to allow driver to clear left wall, 15-18” sounds fine, all software products can cope with offsets.

4:3 is the graphic card to projector setup, you then tell the software to run at that resolution, FSX can handle it.

    good luck.

Thanks, vrpunk! Do you run an offset hitting position with your Darbee 1080 mounted center? If so, any issues?

No (search my posts for images), i have it perfectly centered 2m from a 4m screen, so players club head is directly underneath it, so swing plane doesn't touch it.
BUT ideally i would like a wu515st to shift it right off centre by 40cm in case of a very steep swing plane!
