  • GC2 Screen and Battery Issue

Ok, I have read the past forum posts and the ones that seem similar have unique specific differences from my issue.

When the battery is plugged into the unit, the screen won't power on (green light on, no screen), this condition exists if it is plugged into power adapter or not. If I unplug the battery inside the unit, and plug in to the outlet, it boots fine and works perfectly. I thought it was battery issue, and had the battery rebuilt at Batteries Plus. It was reading 7.8 volts and 10 resistance.

looking for some guidance, because it doesn't seem to be the battery itself, but it also doesn't seem to be the unit given that it boots fine when plugged in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the ribbon cable that goes to the screen is loose and the battery pushes it enough that it doesn’t make good contact. There are small tabs on the side of the ribbon cable connector. Gently slide them towards the cable. Then remove and re position the cable in the connector. Push those little tabs back in to lock the cable in place. Then try putting the battery back in.

      Hey Andy,

Thanks for the reply. I thought the same thing, so tried with the case open and the battery sitting on the desk, not interfering with the ribbon, and it wouldn't boot, then, holding all things constant, just unplugged the battery, and it ran fine.

I will do what you suggest and try to reposition the ribbon cable more thoroughly.

When you measure the resistance between the white and black wire, are you getting 10 ohms or 10 kohms? If they rebuilt it with a 10 ohm one the charging circuitry would think the battery is overheating and would shut off power to the battery. I'm not sure if that would also keep the GC2 from booting though.

          It was 10kohms.

Update today is that the battery is drained and it is now loading like there is no battery at all, which is to say it boots fine, but when unplugged from the power adapter I don't get the green light at all. I will leave plugged in and see if it charges.

I now believe that this is a short on the cpu board.

This problem comes from the battery's own charging temperature protection device, the battery has been aging, so the battery can be used directly without the loss of the power supply.
