  • Worth it to upgrade from FR1 to FSX2018

    Hey guys,

With the free course option, I am intrigued about upgrading my FR1 to FSX2018. If I send in the dongle, they will give me $1,500 credit so FSX2018 will only be $1,500 plus a free course. Just wondering if you guys think that's a decent deal or not. I generally only use FR1 for the range and club fitting options as I only play actual sim golf on TGC. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

I upgraded from FR1 to FSX2018 because of many reasons, but mostly for convenience reasons (ie bluetooth enabled for HMT instead of direct USB connection, better resolution, range data uploaded to foresight website, etc.). The data are literally the same and if you feel comfortable using FR1 then why upgrade. The price seems a bit steep. Did they say they're able to transfer the courses you have on FR1 to FSX2018? I guess it really comes down to the price you feel comfortable with.

Swing cam integration is a HUGE feature in FSX2018. It just works. It also syncs up to the web portal so you can see all you shots. Thats a great deal on FSX given that old FSX costs 750 to upgrade to FSX2018 currently.

Thanks for the input guys. The rep I've been e-mailing also offered to waive the $500 transfer fee to get my name attached to my GC2 (purchased from fellow forum member). I think I'll probably give FSX2018 a whirl. Is, "inside 6" a standard part of the software or is it something I'll need to purchase? Thanks again for the input.

Did the sales guy tell you that you would have to relinquish the FR1 dongle? I had been previously told I was going to have to, but have also read members here who kept it.

If you have to give up the dongle the cost is really: $1500 plus the value of your FR1 (going rate depending on courses seems to be around $700).
If you don't have to give up the dongle the cost is really: $1500 minus the value of your FR1.

gibbiesmalls - unfortunately i do have to send in the FR1 dongle in order to get the software at $1,500. The retail for FSX2018 is $3k. So I figured if they are going to give me $1,500 for FR1 that is better than trying to sell it myself.

You forgot the $500 waiver fee, if you consider that "value"... 🙄 but any who...

Man, I am on the fence with the same situation. I don't see how other members were able to keep their dongle?? What other proof could they have provided that they owned Fr1?

$1500, its not terrible, but its not great either, especially when you have to forfeit your dongle. And why do they need the dongle anyways? Not like they gonna turn around and sell FR1's right?? Decisions decisions...🤔

Anyone upgraded to FSX2018 with no remorse??

In the same boat. I just don't know if the $1500 is worth it. With FR1 and TGC2019 now being released, I'm wondering what the real benefit is going to be going to FSX. The camera integration would be great, but there are some other more cost effective solutions out there to address that.

Hey, don't forget you can get Fairgrounds as well.... I'd say it's worth it but I have a quad and don't have much choice. That being said the camera integration is super simple and works well. All the data going to the cloud with videos of your swings is valuable. You can go back and review any round or practice session you play. For example, why was I playing so well this day and so poor that day? You can go in and compare your swings. It's amazing what can pop out.

I don't know if they will continue doing this but they just had a par 3 closest to the pin to win a M5 or M6 driver. Pretty cool to actually have a shot at winning something real on the sim.

As for turning in the dongle. I think they are trying to get them off the market as they have been used multiple times for upgrades. They used to track by serial number but I'm guess that got to be a pain and unreliable.

I upgraded, was on the fence also, but Stingreye sold me on upgrading, the camera integration and web portal are AWESOME, like he said in an earlier post, it just works!
I have learned more from the camera integration about my swing than anything I have used in the past. I have no remorse and am extremely happy with it!!

I also upgraded with no remorse. I haven’t even done the camera integration yet, but I’m hoping to get to that very soon.

What camera are you guys using for the swing cam function. I have yet to upgrade to FSX 2018 but I am thinking about doing it just for the swing cam integration but would like to know what options I have regarding cameras. TIA

FYI, Ive contacted Foresight for FsX2018 upgrade from Fr1 and the price is now $1750 with a $500 wavier fee for registration. They stated more feautres have been added on since the last pricing offer. Anyone still getting offered $1500? Thanks!

They increased the price of the upgrade from FSX to FSX2018 by the same amount just about 2 months ago. Its increase coincided with the release of the fairgrounds software (free for only $250 lol).

Foresight as always! Never disappoints in price increase strategy

Have a question. While it may be beneficial to pay to upgrade if you have a gc2 with fr1. However if you pay $1750 for the fax upgrade what happens if you decide to upgrade to GCquad down the road? I see most used Gcquads come with fsx. So if you buy a used quad for day 15k and it came with fsx, isn’t the $1750 you just paid to upgrade your copy a wasted purchase?

Or does FSX come with a similar dongle so in the above example if you get a second copy of fsx you can at least sell one copy on the secondary market?

In your used scenario yes you would be spending an additional $1750 if the Quad came with FSX. You would end up with 2 copies and you could sell one. Foresight will "force" you to purchase FSX with the Quad if you don't own it already.

GCQ doesn’t come with FSX you have to buy that separately. So if you upgrade to GCQ and you already have FSX then you just need to buy GCQ only.
