  • Pulled the trigger on a GCQuad. Replacing Xi Tour

So I decided to jump to Foresight with a new GCQuad with ball data after having an Xi Tour in my Sim room for the past 1.5 years. Ultimately, The Xi Tour has overall been very good, reliable, and most importantly, pretty accurate. However part of this is on principal. I have been trying to get answers from E6 and Flightscope for over a year now about the new integration with the X3 for putting and chipping. I have a sim room with a full putting green. However, I wanted the updated technology. I have gotten zero answers and excuses on both sides. I left another inquiry for Flighsctope recently for an update and with interest to buy an X3, no response.

My kids are now 6, 4, and 2 and they all absolutely love playing in there and hitting golf balls. The problem is, the Xi Tour doesn't have chipping, and a lot of the times their scuzzy shots don't pick up on the screen. Anyway, a couple other things I'm looking forward to as well.

1.) Not having to constantly tell people, friends, my wife, kids to not stand or walk in front of the Flightscope, to touch it or move it at all.
2.) The silver dots on the balls. Also always having to make sure the silver dot is facing the screen to get proper spin readings. Even though spin readings are usually about 1,000-1,500 less than outside(consistent though at least)
3.) I'm also excited about the FSX2018 and different courses it has. Really excited about having access to the St. Andrews package, as E6 doesn't offer that. Customizing short courses for my kids, etc.

I'm not crazy about having to put silver dots on my clubs. Which is why I'm considering getting a used back up set of my same irons to keep in my sim room. What I will be doing is hanging on to my Xi Tour, I will be doing a side by side indoor comparison for a while between GC Quad vs the Xi Tour.

At the end of the day, I've always read the Foresight Quad or GC2 is the gold standard for indoors. My understanding is the GCQuad is very good outside as well. Which I will also be doing a side by side comparisons when I have everything set up. It should be here in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!

Here is my sim room thread BTW
    ....
Hey everyone, After a lot of research and literally going back and forth on doing this room 6 or 7 times in the past year, we are close to completion. What

As others said above, alignment stick is there to change the target line, instead of moving the Quad. Also as long as you set it once, you're good to go. So if you took it to the range and you don't remember exactly how you aligned the Quad to the screen, you can just put it any way you want and just use alignment stick for the first time and it'll make sure the Launch Direction is calibrated to that line, so you don't have to do it again. But if you turn off Quad you have to align it again (although it's only the first time after you turn it on anyway). This is a neat feature if you move Quad around a lot.

UPDATE : Received the Quad on Friday and had it fired up and ready by Friday night. Really impressed with this thing. A few first impressions

1.) It's so nice just to scrape a ball in the hitting area, and then fire. As opposed to making sure you grab a ball that has the metallic sticker, rolling it around to have the sticker face the target etc.

2.) Minimal delay/lag, if any. I did activate the spin calibration before shot flight, and it's nice to look up after your strike and see the ball immediately headed in the air

3.) PUTTING - Wow! This was a massive bonus. I never thought putting could be as accurate as it is. It makes the sim experience so much more fun than before. Hell, I didn't know until one of you mentioned putting

4.) Fairgrounds - LOL, awesome! I started laughing when I opened it up. I expected something completely different. My volume was up when I opened it. When that music started playing, all 3 of my kids ran in to see what it was. They hijacked my room for a while. They were in there for at least an hour and my wife and I had to drag them out of there to go to bed. It just validated my purchase 10 fold with how excited they were.

5.) Alignment. I may have to recalibrate the unit. I feel like short irons start slightly right of my target, but it's hard to tell. I have a stiff lower back right now and might just be getting lazy through the ball.

6.) Flightscope Xi Tour comparison - I didn't spend a whole lot of time with this. However I fired up my I pad and started with a 7 iron comparison to 170 yards. Definite props to the Xi Tour, things were extremely close. Spin was within 100-300 rpm's on most if not all shots, distance was within 3-5 yards. Where the GCquad separates it'self is shot workability. When I align myself and hit a 10-15 yard draw, or sweeping hook, the Quad represents that very accurately. The Xi Tour has never seemed to allow the ball to start right enough, and move the ball right to left or left to right enough. It's as if it does it at 50-75% of what it should be. It's close, but the Quad on the other hand seems to over do it a bit. However that makes sense based on Wiscogolf's write up of the Trackman 4 vs Quad. Bang for buck, it's hard to argue with a used Xi Tour or X2 for sim and game improvement. When I have some time, I plan on doing a more detailed indoor comparison with my Quad and Xi Tour and putting it on Youtube.

7.) Buying courses - Do I just just reach out to my rep that sold me the Quad regarding buying golf courses? Besides the $65 discount if you ask, would they give bigger discounts if I bought in bulk? Let's say 15-20 courses at a time plus a couple premium courses?

The dots on the clubs are not a big deal and tend to stay on well even with outdoor play. When you buy courses from Foresight.. you should be able to negotiate to get them for $60-$65 for each standard course.. the premium courses like a pebble and St. Andrews will still be super expensive but less than the advertised price. Overall you will be happy with the accuracy of the quad and the courses... when you get a chance go to www.mdmsg.com and join the discord server. The site is run by mmlincon and he does a great job of providing data on all the courses. Enjoy!
I inquired about better pricing on the courses. I was quoted $99 each for the standard courses, and $395 for the premium courses. Is that something I push? or does that fluctuate throughout the year?

I’ve never paid more than $65 for a course, I have typically purchased in bundles between 4 and 6 but it shouldn’t matter..I know others pay about the same as me as well.. I would push and say u know others are paying $65.. they say $60 is there cost so they are keeping the prices up to try and earn a little more commission I think.

            Hmmmmm...

So I just asked what they could do for 12 courses(2 being premium - Old Course & Pebble). $89 a piece for standard, $400 and $350 for Old Course and Pebble).

I may just pull the trigger. I'm ok with a guy making some money as long as I'm not paying full price.

Somehow I have Pebble Beach x2. If you can get a better deal on Spyglass, I'll trade you one Pebble for Spy. Might be a transfer fee though, no idea.

You can also make one review of any product and get a free regular course, so don't forget to do that.

Ok, I just checked my last transaction receipt and I paid $60 per course for 4 courses

I just inquired about the Pebble/Spyglass trade. I'll let you know.

Blaker34 - I'm thinking about going from the GCQuad from the Xi Tour too. Now you've had it for a while I'd love to hear your feedback. Do you still rate it?

                Alwayz,

I absolutely don't regret it one bit. I love my Quad! Aside from the accuracy of the Quad, the overall playing and sim experience is better as well.

                - No more silver dot on the ball
                - No misreads, or no reads
                - No crazy random no spinning shots, or random 9,000 rpm driver baloon balls.(Those don't happen a lot, but does happen)
                - The online competition experience with Forseight's FSX software is really fun.(I won a Taylormade M5 last year for winning an online tourny)
                - The putting is surprisingly accurate(No, I don't have the putting add on
                - No more telling people to make sure they don't stand in front of the Xi Tour. Or to move their legs when the sit on the golf bench that the Xi Tour sits under!
                - No more 1-3 second delay before the shot displays on the screen(The quad is pretty much instantaneous)

With that being said. The Xi Tour is still a really good piece of equipment that has great value at it's cost. I've done the side by side comparison. The spin and distance numbers are extremely close. I still have my Xi Tour btw(passively trying to sell it)

I would say the biggest difference between the 2 in performance is the following.....

With the Xi Tour - I could set up to hit a hard cut, or really hard sweeping draw, the Xi Tour just wouldn't produce the shot accurately. With the Quad, if I start it 20 yards right and bring it back with an aggressive draw, or cut from the other side, it reads and is very accurate. So occasionally, when I would feel like I hit a hook or over drew the ball. I would raise an eyebrow when it spit out a slight straight pull. I don't think I've ever hit a shot with the Quad where I sat back and questioned it's accuracy.

It's really more about how great the Quad is indoors. The Xi Tour is still better outside due to the doppler technology. I ended up using my Xi Tour outside far less than I thought I would.

                I hope that helps!
