  • Point Grey Camera for use with FSX 18

    Hi guys

I recently bought a Flir (Point Grey) USB high speed camera.
I can't for the life of me get it to work in FSX18
Its a Flir Blackfly S USB camera.
Has anybody else had any joy using a camera from Point Grey in the past before?
And if so, what on earth did you do?
    Cheers
    John

Have you installed the fly capture software? Are you able to view the cameras from it? There is some camera software that you can install from the foresight download site. I don't remember if it's for the PTGrey cameras or imaging source though. It's one of the two.

      Hi mate
yeah, I’ve installed the software, but because it is the bckgly S camera, it is only compatible with the newer software from Flir called Spinnaker I think instead of FlyCapture.
i can get an image on the software but in FSX there’s no camera to select.
the software that’s available from Foresight is for Imaging Source cameras unfortunately.

Oh yes! I did try one of those and returned it because it didn't work. Foresight needs to create the new spinnaker plugin. I inquired about it but didn't get a response. Kinda sucks cause I think those would be nice swing cams.

ill have a play around with it to see if I can get it to work but it doesn't look promising.
          Great camera too.
I've also got a Flir Grasshopper coming as well, so hopefully that works with FlyCapture.
Were you able to get a Flir/PointGrey camera to work in FSX once it was working in flycapture?

I'm using grasshopper3 now and they work pretty well. There is no control over the cam in FSX but you can configure the firmware with flycapture and a few settings in the fsxsettings file.

In flycapture it's reporting 80-90. In the preview page in FSX is says 30. When stepping through the swings I'd say the 80-90 is more accurate. So, yeah pretty well. More FPS would be nice. I get what I need to work on the swing. You can't make out exact clubhead positions though. Also, I'm running them in BW. I get a very weird color cast when running them in FSX. I can correct this in flycapture but it doesn't carry over for some reason.

                  Hi guys
digging up this thread again with the announcement of the swing catalyst partnership as the blackfly cameras are recommended with swing catalyst.
does anyone have the flir / point grey cameras working nicely with FSX 2020?
                  cheers

Bumping this up again and wondering if anyone has gotten Flir cameras to work in FSX2020. I can't get the camera to show up in the dropdown in FSX. Camera works fine in Flir Spinnaker software
