I was looking at the installation guide for the Hawk. The L & R hitting zones appear to be offset by about a foot from center. This seems less than ideal as the room requirements are going to go up and you'll have to be playing in an offset setup no matter what. I'm curios if anyone has offset the Hawk so only the R or L side is actually in a centered location as far the room goes. Obviously you'd loose the L/R capability but if you don't need that then my thinking is it would work.

Minimum a foot I believe. The offset function is actually the best part about it IMO. I used it in a 12 foot wide room so the room requirements actually go down not up. Obviously offsetting it would work but only for one person so if you want that why not buy a Quad?My Courses:

Well I only have righties now so the offset wouldn't be a big deal. Really the only benefits I see are getting the unit off the ground and the auto alignment with ball placement. I already have a Quad. It would be to replace it. Rumor has it that club data will be announced or released at the PGA show. It's Foresight so who really knows.

When I looked into the Hawk I got the impression there's a 'dead' space right down the center line. Right handed people use the right side of the mat and the lefties use the opposite...?

Actually, looking at this again. Looks like you'd have to offset the hawk about 17" to the Left to center the Right Side hitting area. I can see how it can make the room requirements smaller. I though the hitting sides were switched.

Just to chime in on the club data...I was considering the Hawk during the September sale and I was being told that club data would be available in January, 2020.
Due to cost, I ended up going with the Quad.

Club data free if purchased during the PGA show? The rep that I dealt with and I had many emails between us focused on the cost of the Hawk. I would hope that he would have mentioned that the main reason for me NOT going with the Hawk - an additional cost of $4k for club data - would be free in the near(?) future. I was clear that my purchase was early due to construction and that I bought the Quad because the sale price was going bye-bye and couldn't be extended. I wanted the Hawk due to the ceiling mount and all - that it will be safe from the non-golf people that will more than likely use this sim now and then. But, in the end, the money just wasn't there and the Quad - my original choice way back when all this started - was the logical choice.
Anyway....Lefty, I bought my Quad during the September sale and got a new Quad, FSX 2018, club data, putting and 15 courses for $18.5k. I was told that any upgrades, FSX 2019 for instance, will be included for life. I could not choose the courses, so I got what they gave me on that one. There's a 2 year warranty that includes damage from golf balls - I might need that with my grand kids!

Like said it is a rumor and could just be wishful thinking based on an offering for the free putting add-on when it came out. Always keep in mind that the Foresight Reps are sales guys. Nothing more. Don't believe everything they tell you. They work on commission. For instance, free upgrades for FSX. Nope, free updates yes but not upgrades. Don't believe me? Look at the sales site. It's $750 to upgrade to FSX2018. We haven't had a software update since May. Last time they did this there was an upgrade fee to FSX2018 which was announce at the show. You can continue to run FSX2018 and not upgrade so that is an option. I'm not trying to start a rumor that there is a new version coming out because I don't know that. I'm just wondering because of the lack of updates of late.

I have had some ongoing dialogue with Foresight Support EU over the last few months and in the conversation the support team have mentioned that there is an update forthcoming, but they have been saying that for months now. I foresee some minor bug fixes maybe in the update and have not heard about a new version . There are some major issues with FSX 2018 that have not been fixed that have been well documented to them so I'm not hope-full for resolution of the issues before the next product release whenever that may be.

There is a dead space directly in the center about 2 inches wide where a ball will not be recognized. I wish that line could be controlled a little better and the center of the mat could be used for alignment purposes. 99% of the people that play with me are RH and the left center of the mat is never utilized.
Hopefully club data is priced reasonably when it is released for the Hawk because this all adds up pretty quick$$$
