GC2 - battery or wired?

I bought my GC2 a couple of weeks ago and had it delivered to my friend in Houston. Yesterday he smuggled it home to the UK for me, and tonight he's coming round for dinner and bringing it with him. I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting for Santa!!

I was reading the instruction manual in preperation - and it says that the GC2 is already charged, and to use the battery until its flat before putting it on charge.
It also mentions that I should be fully discharging the battery once a month.

I expected just to have it plugged in all the time, and unplug it if I want to take it to the range etc. Can I still have it plugged in, and only unplug it once a month to discharge it?
I assume this is caused from them using a NiMh battery rather than a Lithium Ion?

When I got my unit used, the battery was not holding much of a charge as it had always been on the power supply and not used much with battery only.

By charging the unit and letting the battery run down and repeat several times, I was able to get the battery to hold charge longer now and was able to take it to the course and run it for a couple hours on battery only.

So I think if you run it on power for a month and then try to run it on battery to let it discharge once a month, you should be good. Mine might have been 6 months to a year without that being done and it did seem to decrease the battery life, but was happy to see it come back.

I might just try to get another battery that can be used when I want full life out on a driving range if mine gets too weak, and just use the weak battery over the winter.

Also a note on the flash. The info says you should get about 30 to 40 thousand hits off of a flash. Each time you hit the flash goes off 12 times so when your flash count gets to 400,000 you should have a spare on hand just in case. I seen one at Golf Town that was at 580,000 and it was starting to miss shots for several hits in a row and then would work again for a bit and then miss some more. They say when you miss more than 5 in a row it should be replaced. This is based on the older unit and not the new smaller ball style.

If you leave it plugged in all the time, eventually the battery won't take a charge.

Sounds like I should try and use it on battery frequently to keep the battery life at its best?

Is there a way to tell how many times you've used the flash?

My screen / net is being custom made and isn't going to be with me for a couple of weeks. I'm going to take the GC2 to the driving range tomorrow so I can test it out. I may even have to dig my father in-laws old hitting net out of his attic so I can use it in my garage whilst I wait!

The one thing I noticed with using the GC2 on battery with the sim software was that once the battery output was a bit low, the sim slowed down the with the time it took to show the shot. So once the battery dropped too low the sim software lagged. I assume it was that reason as once power was plugged in that never happened. It would go longer if you just wanted to use the GC2 outdoor on its own as the battery would still run that, just the software stuff did not work well. This was just my findings but it could have been another issue I was not aware of.

For the flash, you might be running the firmware version 3.7.0 and in that version they took out the flash counter so no way to tell unless you go back to an older version. I still use 3.5.?? and this way my flash count still shows. I guess you could back it to that one and then back to the 3.7.0 to play but there was nothing in that update that was for ball flight. In fact the 3.7.0 never worked with my older version of the Range and 1 course software (sounds like an update to the software program would fix that) so I have never wanted to go to 3.7.0.

Is it the GC2 with the readout or the newer GC2T (I think they are called) which would not have the readout?
