  • GCHawk set up

Just wanted to share my new Hawk sim. So far, I've been pretty impressed overall having not used a simulator much. I'm a low handicap and accuracy was very important to me and this has lived up to expectations so far on that end. I'm still figuring out the software side of things and working my way thru all the data and what is actually important. Still a couple things to finish up on it but any tips, tricks, fun things to do or courses to purchase are welcome. Any questions about the Hawk fire away...

Nice setup. Is that a basement install? Ceiling height in the hitting area?

It is a walkout basement. Ceiling height is 9'11" with the mats.

That build looks amazing , well done.
Can I ask what aspect ratio are you using , it looks like about a quarter of your actual screen real estate is not being used ..?

Wow, that's an amazing set-up! Congratulations! Is the Hawk your first LM? Do you have experience with any others you could share your comparison with us?

Thank you. First one. Have very minimal LM experience but know golf and this things seems to be pretty spot on so far.

Nice catch. That can be easily fixed.

Is it just a case of changing the resolution on the pc graphics card to one that fits the screen better?

I am interested in this too because I currently have a WXGA 16.10 native projector and have a 16.10 shape screen and like the immersive feel with that screen shape but would like to upgrade the projector for one with better resolution .

My build needs 0.5 throw ratio so WUXGA projector is not really an option as WUXGA needs longer throw which I can't achieve.
Was wondering what a 16.9 projector would look like set to 16.10 within the NVIDIA graphics card , does anybody know ? Does the NVIDIA card stretch the image to fit the 16.10 screen shape?

If it does that would work for the golf sim but for satellite tv which we also use the sim for correctionwe would have the 16.9 shape with bars top and bottom of the image because there would be no pc graphics card correction as the tv signal comes straight from the set top box to the amp and then the projector?

You should be able to adjust the image using the software to fit the screen and fill it. I can’t remember if it’s done in FSX or the card but I did my buddies screen at 10x10 and filled the screen.

Thanks....I am going to ask some projector retailers how a 16.9 projector will look when 16.10 resolution is set on the graphics card......I would love to try that and see for myself but my projector is 16.10.

Most projectors these days allow for a lot of adjustment.

I have a few question on the Hawk.

                  1. What size is the hitting? Same as the Quad or larger?
                  - wondering if you could go with a hitting insert ( Truestrike or Fiberbuilt ) and putt in front of it
                  2. Does the hitting area get smaller with Club Add on like it does with the Quad? - not sure if you got the add on or not

This is his first LM, not sure if he will have the experience to compare from the others.

Thank you for sharing. Difficult to appreciate with one dimension photo, but any concerns with you set up with wedge shots hitting the Hawk?

Phil might be the only one with those capabilities.

Do you mean the ball? You would have to hit it straight up in the air. Not possible..

What about hitting with a club like a driver. I toyed around with a short throw projector which was in front of me. Always thought I would whack it with driver. So I did a rear mounted regular projector instead.
