New GC2 Owner - Question on demo version of FR1 practice range

I just bought a GC2 from one of the members here. and it arrived yesterday. I also have Skytrak with TGC 2019 which I will be selling soon. Might keep TGC and transfer to GC2.

I setup the systems last night (Skytrak in lefty mode) and hit a few iron shots to compare the data. My findings were in line with what I had read which is the data is very close . Carry was within a couple of yards and same with ball speed, etc.
Major noticeable difference is that you get instant data with GC2 compared to Skytrak and the unregistered shots were less. It's nice to have a larger area to place the ball and have confidence that it will be read with the simulator. With Skytrak, I would have to be precise in ball placement close to the red laser and adjust based on the club I was using (driver vs wedge vs normal iron shot). Even then, I would get a unregistered shot once in a while.

Anyway, GC2 is a keeper. My question is about software for my PC for GC2. I think FSX is too expensive. I like the FR1 range and I was thinking about getting the FR1 dongle and really don't need courses since I have TGC. I noticed that there is a guy on ebay selling a used GC2 and he is claiming that it comes with a demo version of the software with fully functioning driving range, one golf course, practice, mode, fitting mode etc. and it does not need an FR1 dongle to use.

Does this demo really exist, and does it work really without a dongle? It would be something I would really be interested in as I think that is all I need for now..

    Thanks

    Simple answer is NO.
the dongle is a hardware Encrypted Key and is required

and I have never heard of a demo ... if you knew foresight they give nothing away for free

You can get a Demo version of e6 which has a range and 1 course if I remember, but expires after 30 days

I think I have heard of a unit that was released that does indeed have that. Ive read it before.
maybe someone else will chime in.

What he is talking about is the basic FR1 software which includes range, club fit, etc along with one course which is the Belfry where a few Ryder Cups have been played. Aside from the Foresight range you can drop a ball anywhere on any of the courses and go to it.

This software, as do all FR1 courses, requires a dongle which plugs into a USB port on your sim computer. There are available about 85 or so other courses in FR1 along with some game type routines.

I actually prefer FR1 to FSX simply because it runs stand alone without any connection via the internet. I only use it for winter practice where I use the range and occasionally play some of the courses. FSX has better graphics but you also need a better projector then I currently have. For my uses it isn't worth one cent to "upgrade".

This is from the eBay listing:

Also included is a demo version of the FR1 Simulation Software with a FULLY FUNCTIONING driving range, one golf course, practice mode, and fitting mode. Everything is fully Functional, just like the Full Version, Except you will not be able to add additional courses to this Demo Version. It does NOT require a security dongle or install key to work and will never expire. Works with a windows PC only.

AND im also including a Full Version FR1 with 91 golf courses WITHOUT the security dongle. You will need to purchase a security dongle to play this version of FR1 if you do not already have one. They cost around $600 if you can find one on ebay or golf forums. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY THIS 91 COURSE VERSION WITHOUT A DONGLE!!

It sounds like someone cracked the software to run without the dongle??

No it does exist. No dongle required. Im sure ive read it before. I have the security green dongle but I believe his unit includes what he says it does and you can't add courses to it. Ask him about it. Maybe it was made specific for retail location.

Take a look at sold listings by nw0280. He has sold multiple GC2 units with same exact description and claims to include demo FR1 that works without a dongle. He has received positive feedback on a couple of transactions.
