Is the HMT worth the extra cost if you are not a fitter or teaching pro? Wrestling with whether I need it or not. Would love to see what my club face and all looks like after a shot but I also see the dots you have to add to each club as a pain especially when I want to go play with the same clubs and have to take the dots off and put back on all the time.

GC2 and HMT Quick Question

Whether it is worth it or not is a personal decision. After a year of owning just the GC2, I added a refurb HMT. I do not use it a lot, but when I do, I'm glad to have it. As for the dots, they're really not a PIA. They stay on through many rounds of outdoor play. I replace them infrequently. I also generally only have all four dots on only three clubs at any given point in time: Wedge, 8 or 7 Iron, Driver. Hope that helps.

I have the GC2/HMT combo and I believe that the HMT is a very valuable tool to have. You can see strike details on every shot, dynamic loft , path , face to path and a whole bunch of other detail that can help you understand what is happening within your swing.
The Foresight hardware is very good although expensive, I don't have expensive clubs so I was able to source a second set of clubs cheaply solely for use in the sim so no worry about changing dots all the time or worrying about dirt from the course transferring to the screen.
If you are looking at GC2 and HMT which is a major expenditure for most people ,a second set of used clubs to use solely in the sim is maybe a good idea and unless you are using latest season clubs probably affordable in the overall sense of Golf Sim costs.
When I got the GC2/HMT I really began to become aware of how all the mechanics of my swing affected ball flight , I like to tinker and try to improve my swing and love having the additional information and numbers that the HMT provides but equally I have friends that use our sim that don't like the additional info as they feel they prefer not to be perhaps swamped with numbers and try to work with a more feel based approach.
I can vouch though that the HMT will show you stuff that a lot of people will not realise is happening with regard to their swing and strike detail, I agree with orangeman it's probably a personal decision whether to invest in one or not , I don't regret having mine , if using FSX 2018 I have the club data displayed for every shot.

I'm a 20+ handicapper and have no idea what most of the HMT data is, but it sure is fun to have. The two things I understand are face impact location and wanting my path to be in to out. I get to see those with every shot. Next week I am going to start working with an instructor that specializes in GC2/HMT and I plan on leaving the details in his hands. Also, FSX is pretty cool the way you can include cameras and get slow motion replay automatically. The data aggregated by the FSX is awesome as well.

The Ultimate Guide to Trackman Swing Analysis by Jim McLean is a decent resource for what to do with HMT data for improvement. The data is similar enough to work. Available on Kindle. Adam Young's book and videos may also help in how to create swing changes. But I find it very difficult to zero out swing path and face or steepen angle of attack.

Appreciate everyone's input. Decided to go with the new GC2 unit/FSX Software bundle Black Friday special they are having. Will be playing TGC 2019 most of the time which the HMT does not work on. May regret not having it but worst case I can try and find a used one for a reasonable price.

You can always buy one later down the road if you feel like you're missing out. One good this is you already will have fsx18 to display all the hmt info👍Originally posted by John6577 View PostAppreciate everyone's input. For those that don't know, the GC2 transfers 3 sets of data. (Chad told me) 1 is the ball speed and direction then spin then club data. If the HMT is connected to TGC, TGC has to wait for all 3 packets of data and the shot to show is around 3 seconds. It's terrible. I tried it bluetooth and hard wired. FSX takes the 3 packets separately so the ball takes off before the club data packet comes in. You can see this happen on your own GC2 and in FSX. Hit a shot and spin shows up after the other data then club. Same with FSX. You've never noticed because you're looking at the ball fly. This is why club data for a GC2 isn't in TGC. Also, all of the data is shown on the screen of the GC2.Originally posted by John6577 View PostAppreciate everyone's input. The club data can be fed to TGC but it slows the shot to show down to Skytrak delay because it would have to wait for all 3 data packets. I’ve tried it hard wired and Bluetooth. The time is the same. FSX takes the three data packets separately and TGC takes it all at once. It’s too much waiting for club data when the GC2 shows the club data on it’s own screen.Originally posted by Bubba22 View PostSo is the club data fed over Bluetooth? Why can’t it be fed to TGC?My Courses:

I see. To bad TGC couldn't just add this last package of club data later. The club data is certainly not needed for ball flight and only would be looked at when the info page comes up well after the ball flight.
