    rate of closure

does anyone know what decent rate of closure is for a driver. As the gc2 measures just before impact you can hit a draw with an open face, which confuses a lot of people and I was told the face can close up to 9 degrees through impact. If so a slower closure rate will be more consistent and accurate but what is a decent closure rate to try to achieve. When I asked foresight they had no idea

I don't the answer to your question, but you should also look at face vs. path. A face that is open but closed to the path will also draw. For example, face 2 degrees open with path 3 in to out will draw (for right handed swing).

I did a lot of research on this when I bought the HMT. The only answer I have is I got no idea. lol

When you say open face, are you talking open-to-path or open to target?

Because of course you can draw with a face open to target line, that's how push draws work..

It has nothing to do with the clubface closing through impact, the ball is only one the face for 1ms or less.

Also, for closure rate, the slower the better. The less you close, the more stable your face is. More repeatable swing.

This ping research chart suggests that there are better things to spend your time on than ROC.

open face to swing path, central strike . A one degree open face will result in a slight draw. My only explanation is the the face will close by the time the ball leaves the face, hence I was wondering what rate of closure would limit this.
Trackman records at full compression which is later, so the 2 machines should give different face angles on the same swing. So a 1 degree open face on the gc2 might be the same as a 1 degree closed on the trackman

There are really no right or wrong closure rates. Lower values are generally preferred though. This measurement can be used to monitor consistency with your swing. Your closure rate should remain fairly consistent from swing to swing.

Yes, as mm said, perhaps to look at your consistency, but...

I would not think it matter a whole ton and I would think swing speed has a large impact upon the effect as well. It's not like you are scooping up the ball and throwing it, and you;re not staying in contact with the ball for very long. So, it really matters where the face it when you touch it and where the face is when the ball releases off the face. Very brief and not worth spending any time thinking about. Worry more about what the ball is doing than your closure rate, would my my own unprofessional opinion.

Andrew Rice posted on Instagram yesterday (I believe) a slow motion vid of Victor Hovland specifically highlighting his rate of closure. There was some further discussion in the comments and evenRice seemed to indicate its more of a fad than a usable metric from what I gathered. The gist was that a club approaching from outside and slightly closed will have a lower rate of closure in an attempt to hold it off to keep the ball from going left... not something that’s typically encouraged .

Coincidentally I just had a lesson this morning and we discussed rate of closure. My instructor said 2000-2500 would be ideal for to match my path and swing. However, the important thing is consistency. I would have anything from 1000 to 5800...basically meaning my hands are way too busy. I think the answer to your question is specific to each golfer and their swing.
