I used the new yardage gapping tool in 6.6.1.1 last night... It's actually pretty nice... Obviously you could do this yourself on the Foresight range with the raw data but the program was super easy and would be great to run thru with buddies who come over to play. Basically it has you hit balls with each club until you have 3 well struck ones... Then you pick the well struck ones and it moves to the next club... I didn't spend a whole lot of time and just hit 3-5 with each club but it then spits out your avg carry per club in a report that can be emailed and printed... Even has your yardages in a small area you can cut out... I'll attach below... All in all I was impressed...

Yeah, I did it last weekend and agree, it's a nice tool. It pointed out a couple clubs that don't fit right, so I checked my loft lie on those and will redo them sometime soon to see if it fixes it or find another solution.

They also have a bag mapper function with SkyTrak that I use quite regularly. I even used this function to do a ball fitting and compare different balls to each other. I basically ran the bag mapper and hit 5 different balls 5 times with each club and then analyzed the data. I looked at the data that was important for me for each club. For example, for the driver, carry, total distance, low backspin, distance off-line, and ball dispersion and for my wedges, I would be looking at spin rate, roll, height, etc. I was looking for lower flight and higher spin, distance from the target, etc. By doing that, I gave a point from 1-5 (just a ranking from 1-5 of the best performing ball and the poorest performing ball) for each of the flight characteristics and for each of the five balls I compared. Then the ball with the lowest score was the winner. It was a fun exercise.Japan

Oh yeah, I absolutely buy the ball that was the winner of this test (ProV1) and use them exclusively. It may sound strange but I only use those balls on my simulator as well so that I can know (with better confidence) the results that I am going to get. One might think that ProV1 are too expensive for simulation play, however, I will generally lose many balls on the course before a ball on the sim is even close to being ready to retire.Originally posted by delaloi View PostGreat idea Sirish. Do you feel that the test was representative enough that you would buy balls on this basis? Maybe depends what level of player you are (delta between good and bad hits).
Actually, ProV1, ProV1x and Callaway Chromesoft were all very close in number so I ended up breaking the tie based on putting feel.
Also interesting to note, and probably wouldn't have noticed this if I weren't doing a side-by side comparison. I had a few balls that were supposed to better for distance, perhaps Callaway trajectory or something like that. Anyway, I didn't really notice much deviation until I got to my 60 degree wedge. With the PV1, I was hitting that about halfway up the net. With these other balls, I almost flew them OVER the net, everytime. Total distance wasn't really going much differently but how it got there was very different. i.e., much higher trajectory, flight but lower spin and more role out. Really shows the importance of looking at the numbers.Japan

Not strange at all. Nice sim impact screens are too expensive to hit anything into but a perfect ball. I only hit brand new ones (anything urethane covered) and at the first sign of a wedge scuff it goes into my bag to live the rest of its life out on the course. I compared snell, pro v1 & tp5, etc., and the tie breaker is always price.Originally posted by sirish19 View PostIt may sound strange but I only use those balls on my simulator as well so that I can know (with better confidence) the results that I am going to get.
