  • All the different fsx versions, newbie question.

    Hey guys,
I am absolutely ready to pull the trigger on a gc2 sim. Wanting to play online, tournaments, etc. I’m curious about the different fsx versions. Which one will I need? Why is one better than the other? Is the fsx software used to play online? All compatible with pro tee? Only the newest fsx online? Also what is tgc? Is that another option to have other than fxs? Sorry for the newbie questions, just want to make sure I purchase exactly what is needed to get what I want out of my sim.

    Thanks in advance,
    Lance

There are FSX, FSX2018, and soon to be released FSX2020, which is supposedly a free upgrade from FSX2018. The cost for these is somewhere around $3500 and then you buy additional courses for $100-500/piece, or sometimes they go on sale. The online tournament features in FSX2018 are pretty sparse. There are some occasional closest to the hole challenges, and you should be able to host a match with someone else, but you won't find 100+ person fields. TGC stands for The Golf Club. It is a video game that was adapted by Protee to work with launch monitors for simulation. Last year they updated it to TGC2019 which has improved graphics and some other features. TGC2019 is $1000 and you don't pay for courses because they are included. There are lots of online tournaments with 100+ people playing each week.

If you are buying new from Foresight, they will probably require you purchase FSX2018. I don't think they require it with their refurbished units. Or you can buy from an individual without any software. Depending on your budget, they have a pretty good deal now for valentines day. https://shop.foresightsports.com/col...pecial-package

Just in case it wasn't clear from Andy's post, you don't need to get FSX at all. There are other sim software options you can use with the GC2, TGC being one of the more popular ones.

I have a gc2. It comes down to this. Do you strictly want to play? Or do you want to improve? If you just want to play grab TGC2019. If you want to improve grab FSX2018. I recently got fsx2018 and I love it but it’s expensive. But I want to improve. I had JNPG before and it was great but would’ve transitioned to tgc2019 if I just wanted sim play.
The graphics on FSX lack behind the other softwares but it’s good enough and the integration and insight into their software makes it worth the price tag.
Apparently FSX2020 will be a free upgrade and they’re changing their gaming engine on 2020. Should see some improvements graphic wise at least on the range initially and hopefully when they update their courses.
