  • Just how much of a chance is there of hitting GC2/HMT with a dreaded sh***

I just bought a GC2 and am in the process of building my simulator in the garage.
At some point in the near(ish) future I plan on adding the HMT unit.

GC2 (and HMT) users - how likely is it that a hosel rocket will smash into the units?
I assume it's more likely with the HMT as it's further out in front?

I will be teaching my wife to play golf - she has not played before - and just for peace of mind I WILL be buying a cover for the GC2 that I believe was built by a user here and I found available on ebay.
But what about the HMT - not seen any option for protection for that... is there something?

With the gc2 I would say very unlikely. I have seen plenty of hosel rockets and none have been close to the gc2. However I don't have the hmt. I hit from the furthest forward location that the gc2 will pick up the ball. With that said a beginner could say toe a hybrid into it imo.

I would look at reviews on here for the acrylic cover before buying it. I also don’t know if it was works with an HMT attached. Foresight says that the HMT doesn’t need a cover because it has a rubber front, but if I were you I would buy some of the foam callaway practice balls or the ones called almost golf balls for her to use. You don’t want her to be stressed about hitting it while she is learning to play. Golf is hard enough to learn as it is.

I do know that foresight’s plastic shield covers the GC2 while an HMT is attached and at least one version of their discontinued metal shank tank does not.

The practice balls idea is a good one.. she can just get used to hitting the ball properly first before using proper golf balls.

I zip cut a slot into my metal one and it will accept the hmt arm

We have plenty of beginners play. It can and will be hit occasionally. However it’s generally such a bad shot it’s not moving all that fast. That said I built a basic cover for it out of some leftover wood and plexiglass. I believe there are other options for sale out there. I wouldn’t want to see what would happen without a cover.

Do you mean for the GC2 or an HMT?

          I have a gc2, no hmt.

The HMT was built to take direct fire.. it has a very thick rubber padding and the cameras are protected. I don't believe a hosel shot could hit the GC2 but other mishits could (and have)...

        1. Toe sh*nk. I use foam balls when tweaking my swing because I have toe sh***ed a couple that went almost directly at the unit
        2. High wedge shots coming off impact screen and bouncing back at GC2. I've almost hit the GC2 before I installed some baffling on top of screen to stop this.

I have the GC2/HMT and use the steel shank tank which protects the GC2 and I use a couple of smash bags stacked on top of each other to the side of the HMT to protect from any rebound or richochet shots. I don't think you can do much more to protect from shanks though.

HMT - built to come off its base in a hosel situation and it works. I got the case from foresight though I know there are cheaper options. Both survived the dreaded double hit hosel rocket by my brother the first time he used it - 2 days after I bought it. I simply put the HMT box in front (toward the screen) of the HMT and anything bouncing back hits that harmlessly.

I agree with what previous members have said. I use the plastic cover from Foresight for the GC2. I have had a couple balls bounce back into it from the screen but it doesn't have enough force to do any damage. I have had buddies hit really bad shots without hitting the GC2. As stated above, it would have to be a really bad shot to hit the GC2 and wouldn't have much speed at that point. I have heard great reviews on third party covers and very bad reviews about third party covers. Hopefully you get a good one if you go that route. The HMT does have a thick padded front. Probably 1/2"-3/4" of rubber. It also magnetically connects to the base so my guess is that a direct hit would simply knock it off its base. Not a big deal. I myself am a mid handicap golfer and my buddies are mid-high handicap. I was worried at first but after several months, I don't even think about it anymore. Good luck with your setup! Buy the HMT and FSX used. Foresight charges way to much!!

Sounds about right. I have only had the HMT for a couple weeks but love all of the data. They go for sale often on here and on the Facebook groups. Well worth the investment when the time is right.

I have the overpriced plastic cover from FS and I am using it alongside my HMT. The cutouts allow for all the connections.

Likelihood low but not zero. Get a protector for sure, if anything for piece of mind. Bounce back off the screen can also occur so a protector is well worth it.

Chances are close to 100%. Go to any range and watch the people. Every now and then you see sideways shots even from people with negative handicaps.

It's worse with simulators since everyone pretty much ramps up to a full boogie swing consciously or unconsciously trying to increase swing or ball speed. That plus you don't have to chase and find the foul balls.

I've had all kinds of people hit the metal protective case around the GC2. Hackers are more prone but even scratch golfers have tried putting a dent in the metal.

                      Good to know!
Will certainly be investing in a case - just need one that enables the HMT connection at a later date.

The Foresight plastic case enables all connections.

With the plastic shield it and the HMT are designed to take a shank. All good.
