  • Risk of Hitting GC Hawk by errant Shot?

Hi, planning my sim build and an considering GCHAWK primarily for the ease of left/right hitting players. When reviewing the placement of the components I am surprised that the HAWK is mounted 4 feet in front of the hitting position on the ceiling. I am curious if folks are concerned with damage to the HAWK from an errant sky ball. True this would be a very low probability, but it is a pretty expensive unit. …..

Second, is there any problem with mounting the projector above the hitting area? I ask as this would cause the picture to be projected through the HAWK field of vision ….things that make me go hmm…. I would appreciate any comments especially if you own a HAWK.

    Many thanks – Jason

If you had some of my friends over your launch monitor would be in jeopardy

Every product Foresight has made has been made with the possibility of it being hit. I’d assume the hawk is too. Keep in mind it would be almost impossible to hit. It’s almost above the ball.

My wife skied a driver and it was 54” from the hitting spot so if your unit needs to be 4 feet in front of the hitting area and your ceiling is not really tall, then it is possible, but in 5 years of my sim that was the only one and I have no idea how many shots that has been, but it’s been a lot. Does it really need to be 4 ft in front? (I know nothing of the GCHawk).
It’s amazing the perfect dimple pattern it leaves though. Lol.

The hawk is like 2 feet ahead.

That sounds more realistic. OP says 4 feet.

I am also installing a Hawk and the instructions say to put the middle of the Hawk 4 feet from (in front of) the teed up ball, with a suggested ceiling height of between 9 and 10.5 feet.

I have the placement penciled out on my concrete floor and I don't see how the Hawk could get hit. It "looks" like it's almost over your head.

        Hope that helps,
        Jon in American Fork

Did you have anything before? Does it have wifi? I'm thinking about buying one but I want to know how good it is.

Thanks all. Yes, the Installation directions call it to be placed 4feet ahead of the tee position, though there is a considerably wider viewing area. Again, I agree that it is a long shot but with the price of the unit I have to ask.

That aside, does anyone have any information on part 2 of the question regarding the projector placement? Many projectors would need to be mounted behind the Hawk shining through it. If it is ahead of the Hawk, it would also be in danger of being hit I assume. I have searched but other than a couple of home-built protective covers, I cannot find a golf sim specific enclosure to protect the projector from below/behind the ceiling mount.
