  • Sim in a Box

I have tried to find some reviews discussing Sim in a box solutions. I started this journey thinking or buying component by component, and I still go this route but you cannot argue with the simplicity of one-stop-shopping. Thoughts on value and general quality of the components (specifically the screen and support) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance - Jason

I just posted my review for the sim in a box package I purchased a few weeks ago. I'm happy to answer any questions you have (See Below) I purchased from Costco when it was on sale for about 3 hours before it sold out.

Quality Components, Complete & Convenient Kit, Good Value, Some Disappointments

Overall I am happy I purchased the Sim-In-A-Box Eagle Package; with a few reservations. I’ll start with THE GOOD: The software and included courses are very good, once you learn the shortcuts and work your way around. 30 included courses are likely all you will ever need, and a lifetime license without annual fees is a big plus. The net, frame, screen & surrounds are well designed, sturdy and well thought out. Most of the soft goods, i.e. surround, screen, etc., are attached via very strong Velcro. The Projector is bright and powerful. It will mount in the included cart or via ceiling mount (not included) GC Quad launch monitor is amazing, durable and accurate. Everything is in the box, including a socket, wire fish tape and surge protected power strip. The kids like the fairgrounds program, which includes fun games like bowling, darts and shooting gallery.

Next, THE WORDS OF WISDOM: Watch the instructional video and have it on a laptop to go through step-by-step as you install. Be ready for Velcro, lots of Velcro. Take your time and line up your overlaps because it is not easy to pull off. Do not make the net and blackout panel behind the net too tight; it needs to drape loosely or the ball will bounce back too far; a few came very close to the projector lens. I disliked the cart setup for the projector location. The keystone adjustment is almost at the projectors limits and the image suffers. I strongly suggest ceiling mounting the projector if your setup will allow. The image is sharper and easier to “dial in” with less keystone adjustment.

The Disappointments: First, the included computer should be “beefier”. I am not sure it will handle a future software upgrade to FSX 2020 without additional RAM. The videos and pictures on the listing & website show an ACER Predator Gaming Computer and beautiful gaming keyboard. What I received was a lesser HP Gaming Computer and a combination mini keyboard and mouse. The difference between the ACER computer and the supplied one is significant. When you are tabulating the costs of the expected items compared to an a la carte system alternative, that is also a large monetary adjustment. Second, the GC Quad should really include the Club Head Analysis. The capability is already built in; it’s punitive and greedy at this price point to ask for $4,000 as an add on, and I feel it is needed for real swing evaluation. Third, the projector, while bright and competent, is difficult to dial in. The manual focus and zoom are not as easy to use as other projectors. I will eventually need to upgrade to a 4K unit.

Summation: My decision to buy the Foresight system was largely positive. I would give it 4.25 stars if the system would allow partial stars. If it included Club Head Analysis and the portrayed computer, it would be a strong 5 Star rating. I hope Foresight gives a complimentary upgrade to the new 2020 software when it is released soon, as well as a deeply discounted Club Head Analysis offer to really utilize the system.

I was thinking about getting this package. How does the quality look from say 10’ from a screen that size?

Super helpful - thankyou. Yes, I am a bit concerned with the quality of the enclosed PC, Projector and frankly the hitting surface. Ceiling mounted projector looks like the solutoin as well I agree. Otherwise it looks like a great solution for my installation. The fact that it is (quasi) portable is also appealing to me. Great review. Did you mention you posted a review somewhere I did not see it on the forum.

    thanks again - Jason

      Jason,

I would not really call it portable. I did however save all the bags and pouches in case I wanted to pack it up or return it. It mostly bolts together.

My review on Costco's site is what I posted above. I purchased from Costco when it was discounted a few thousand. At the price, it is hard to beat compared to purchasing all items separately which I considered. The enclosure is way better than Carls Place premium enclosures. The screen is actually a separate fabric that goes over a net and then blackout panel; compared to an all in one with most others. Much better resolution and I like that the screen could be velcroed off and replaced if needed.

The hitting surface is great actually, much better than many others I have used and much better than your normal country club mat. It is a large interlocking rubber base elevated about 3 inches.

The computer seems ok, my disappointment was in what I was expecting vs delivered. I think I will add another 16 of RAM and it will be fine. I hope to be able to take the Quad to the course wehn the restrictions are lifted.

Thanks for the info! This review inspired me to go ahead and order one. I like the convenience of an all in one product. How long did yours take to arrive?

I wanted to buy the eagle package for the enclosure with the quad & FSX but foresight wouldn’t budge on separating it out. I don’t need their computer or projector. So I may order the Costco package and just sell the computer and projector online.
