  • FSX2020...stable?

For those who have upgraded in the past week, I noticed v7.03 is now out, so have things stabilised a bit?

I only have three of the new 3.0 courses so only want to upgrade from FSX2018 if everything is working well, including the older courses. There were a few comments around older courses not loading properly and other bugs.

Think that was release 1. 7.0.3 hehe
waiting on some fixes from a 7.1.0 version I reckon

Oh really? I thought there was a 7.0.0.1 initially and they uploaded a new version. Must have got confused with the Linfield course update.

Still keen to know if it’s working ok. Will update this weekend if so.

It has been quite stable especially for a early release from Foresight. The again not much has changed. Apparently there is a scoring issue if you use auto putt. If you actually play golf on it it works fine. There is a slight graphics improvement. I'd say 10% or so. Not dramatic.

          Brilliant. Thank you.

I’ll take a 10% improvement for nothing, providing my courses all work!

I actually use auto putt and yes there is an issue. Sure feels like golf but I guess it's not actually playing golf? In reality it gives me more time for real golf instead of trying to figure out some funky green break.

When I do decide to play FSX, I generally use Manual Putt. Does this mean that I am not playing golf on a sim? Probably, because it is Foresight Software and putting on it is not all that great. I would rather play more rounds than have bad putting. Basically, this community is getting pretty salty over FSX, when it should have been salty 3 or so years ago. I am done trying to validate my FSX purchase..........the GC2 is great, but the rest, not so much!

Which courses are updated with the new graphics?
        Is there a list somewhere?

Thanks for that - very surprised they released this without having all the courses done.
I wonder how long it will take them and whether they will even bother updating them all.
          Who knows.

Anything that starts with a 3.x.x is an updated course, listed in the updates page

There is a scoring problem not only with Auto-putt, which I have never used. I use gimmes. Maybe that is the source of the problem, but the problem is not simply that it doesn't count gimmes.

It has always counted gimmies and it does it correctly now as well, at least on my system. A gimmie gives you one single stroke from where you set gimmies from, so it assumes you made the putt once you're inside the distance you set.

Is it not adding a stroke on yours? And if so, which course(s)? I'll try one of those to see if it's just you.

If you look at my thread 64 on Carnoustie you will see what I mean. There is no rhyme or reason to what it's doing on my system. Except possibly some handicap adjustment, which I will check.

I just went and played Carnoustie again and it played exactly how it should for me. I checked my handicap on my profile and I do have a 0 there, so not sure if that's it. Maybe I'll try one tomorrow with a Handicap.

It scores correctly on my last two rounds. I also got all courses to work. I had no crashes/stability issues so far - just a few longer load times.

I have not had any crashes either, the only problem being the scoring issue. Otherwise, for the price, I'm happy with the upgrade.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Didn’t want to do the upgrade then have a bunch of issues requiring a software rollback.

I'm assuming since I haven't got my license information since paying last Friday there is an issue with the software. Radio silence except "it should be emailed to you soon". Mind you I'm upgrading from fr1 so I may be low on the totem pole, but one week for a download and license is fairly odd.

Has anyone played the updated Pebble? Is it much of an upgrade?

I can not confirm this. I see even less difference on Pebble. The Greens are exactly the same. Water, Trees. No difference. I am still not sure the Install of the course worked, because I do not find anything that is changed. Is there any way to see which version of the course is playing?

Doesn’t sound like yours worked. Go into your course folder: Program files x86->Foresight Sports Experience -> Courses (I think). Make sure the only pebble file is 3.*

Same here, I see zero difference. Must be loading the previous version. I’ll check the file.

For others looking at this, can someone please post a video with FSX2020, so we can see how it looks, and the gameplay works? I would like to compare it to other software, and see if it's worth having... also the Foot Golf option looks interesting for my kids, does anyone have that?

              TIA,
              -Brett

This is Coer Dalene. Filmed from my projector screen. Overall there is more texture on trees, water is a bit more "shiny" and everything looks slightly more saturated. Everything else is very similar.

Played CDA first up, found it to be a lot nicer overall.

Completed the upgrade this morning, was seamless.

I was still running an early 2019 version of FSX, so I’m pretty happy with this upgrade as there’s a few bug fixes and I now have the gapping function (really good).

Graphics wise - I would describe it as noticeable but only subtle improvements. Trees, grass colours, water, sand...more overall texture if that makes sense.
