  • GCQuad with TGC up and running

I listed the steps I took to get this thing going. I just got done playing a round at a famous course down South where a big tourney was supposed to be held this weekend.

Step 1: Buy this: https://golfsimulatorstore.com/colle...13246583636067 - this part is a pain because you need to install protee and TGC and wait for all your licenses to come via email.

Step 2: Configure protee as instructed in other posts. Basically - you need to just change 1 setting to configure it to external data

Step 3: Install GQSX.com - pm me if you need this

Step 4: Connect the Quad to the computer via wifi

Step 5: Connect to internet either via ethernet cable or another wifi card and bridge connections - this allows to connect to internet and qcquad at the same time

Step 6: Launch Protee then GQSX (click on connect) then start TGC

It should now work. No needing all that other stuff like you do for the GC2.

Ah. That is a bit of a blow. What a shame!

Hmm what I don’t understand is how it shares data with FSX or the Fitting app then? They still use WiFi. Wonder if they’ve encrypted it, or made a change to support e6 as you suggest. If so, it’s possible there will be a workaround ultimately.

As someone who just bought a Quad and sold their GC2, this is terrible news.

I was going to buy a quad this week, I’m keeping my GC2 now.

Man that is a bummer. It’s funny that they don’t seem to do much development on FSX over the last 5 years, but they sure developed and pushed out the update to shut down use with other software quickly despite there being a pandemic!

If anyone is interested, hook up the USB-C cable to your PC and then navigate to your drives. You'll see one for the GCQuad and a .log file which has the details in there. This means GSQX will not be able to grab ball data from the GCQuad which means it can't pass it to Protee.

My hunch is that E6 is behind this. This essentially will try to force TGC users to consider buying more FSX courses or switch to E6.
I'm not a techy and there are certainly others way more qualified than me, but I played fsx just fine using wifi yesterday and I did get TGC working saturday for a short period of time with my quad.

What ProTee interface are you guys using? It might be in the interface. What version of TGC are you each on?

ProTee Support got onto my computer remotely and looked around. Not sure if this is helpful or not. This is our back and forth:

Ok, what I just tested is the extrenal data connectivity. Basically I just opened a connection to the interface (like what GQSX is supposed todo). I forced a ball launch with specific data (also what GQSX is supposed to do). This is all working nicely. The interface works. The ports are open. There are no security issues, so all now left is the GQSX part. Can you hit a shot?

                    yes- just hit

The data should appear in the interface main menu. It does not show anything... The GQSX is connected to the interface, otherwise putty would be able to connect but is getting a refused. Hit one more, please.

                    just hit

There is definitely an issue with that GQSX app. The external data connection works like a charm, the GQSX app connects but does not send any data. What is really strange is that the app restarts itself internally constantly. Never seen such a behaviour with any kind of application before. You might have to get in contact with the developer. The GQ app is restarting/killing itself in the background. The app disappears from the task manager and reappears every 2 seconds or so. The app is able to setup a connection with the ProTee Golf Interface, but it's not sending shot data.

There is not much we can do about that app, as we do not have the code. It's also not producting any logs. If we hear something we will let you know.

                    thank you for your time

                    No problem. Cheers.

                    • I do have a feeling it's either on each individual's computer issue, whether it's a WIndows or Protee interface or TGC software that broke the interface. If Foresight breaks ethernet/wifi ball data send, that can create chaos for people who legitly use applications such as FSX, iPad, iPhone and possible E6 and etc. It's just my guess though.

I think we need to focus more on firmware rollback as that might be a bigger bummer because newer firmware might have more issues so people would need to go back to older firmware.

This is driving me nuts. A couple of observations:

                        * My quad firmware was last updated in May 2020
                        * On July 18, I was using TGC2019 with my quad working fine
*Since July 18, i haven't been able to get it to work
*I looked at my GCQuad history, and the error messages cited above were on my quad both before and after July 18. In other words, even though i had received those error messages, TGC2019 worked for me on July 18
*My FSX continues to work over wifi just fine

                        • Something changed that has GQSX app not working any more. Everything else checks out. Do we know who developed GQSX? ProTee support said they'd work with me/us if they could see the code and/or get logs and data. I know nothing about computer stuff- just passing on info I'm told. Thanks all- obviously desperate for a fix.

That's my thinking as well. GQSX isn't sending data. I'm in same boat as you. Have a quad and bought TGC last week in reliance upon GQSX. Can't believe my unlucky timing...

                            • I have a GC2, so not directly impacted. However, I do have an IT / software development background. Any chance that there was a Windows upgrade pushed for Win 10 (they call them patch Tuesdays) that updated something that “broke” GSQX? I am not sure what date the last patch was pushed from Microsoft, but that may be something to look into.

Yes- there was recently a big windows update- the kind that restarts the computer and says "Welcome" and all that...

I'm dumb to computers- is there a way to undo a windows update? I could try it and see if it works?

I haven't had to do it on my own PC, but there should be a way to "roll-back" a Windows update. The downside, depending on what was in the patch, is that could leave your PC open to a patched vulnerability / zero-day vulnerabilty.

I think if you go into the "Settings" and then go into Update and Security, then go to View Update History, there should be an uninstall update. Looks like there were a couple of pushes last week, one on the 15th and one on the 17th. Maybe rolling those back (uninstalling) will solve the problem.

onehandicap's comment above reminded me of it.

When I had my Uneekor QED, every time Windows updated or Windows Defender updated, I would run into an issue whereby Uneekor wouldn't work. Turns out, the latest Windows update was quarantining the .exe program for the sensor. To fix, you had to add that .exe. program file to the Windows Exclusions List so it doesn't keep quarantining it. Maybe double check all the programs needed to play TGC2019 and see if any were quarantined.

This may or may not be the solution here but throwing it out there nonetheless.
