  • NVIDIA Graphics Card Settings Question

So reading the .pdf on the Foresight web sight I see that it recommends setting the Texture filtering from the default "Quality" setting and to select "High Performance". This is different then recommendations (not FSX specific) on the Nvidia site which strongly recommends leaving it in Quality for Gaming.

I am wondering if the FSX recommendation holds true with newer graphicas cards or if it is still the way to go and why. I will be using a Widows 10 purpose-built machine with i9-9900K, 32BG DDR4 and RTX 2080 Super.

    Thanks - Jason

I was asking this on discord earlier and wondering the same. If you've seen the flybys on YouTube of the courses, mine dont run as smooth and look more grainy. I'm wondering what else to adjust to get it looking more crisp as I've seen..

The youtube videos are in UHD so that helps. I have used the recommended settings and the NVIDIA defaults. Haven't noticed a single bit of difference. I recently upgraded from a 1070 to 2080S for other reasons. Not much difference between the two. Probably getting more FPS with the 2080S.

BTW, you can make those adjustment to only FSX if you want and not global as they suggest.

Your 3d is set to performance and not to quality also? Cuz just showing the 3d image itll show crisp edges on quality and rough/jagged edges on performance like they recommend..

I changed the settings this morning and mine goes from Step 1 to step 2, but my step 2 is what the pdf says step 3 should be. Anyone else have this problem? I have a 1070 gpu.

Is it a laptop? If so, its prob the CPU setting which is already setup to run in your 1070

SO everything has arrived and I am downloading FSX as we speak. Not sure I have an actual answer or opinion on the issue however. I am going to leave the settings per the NVIDIA recommendations given the FSX recommended settings come from 2016. Anyone see an issue here? I compared the min spec card they now recommend (1050Ti) vs my card (the RTX2080 Super), seems pretty night and day.....

That card is a minimum, not a recommended. You are more than good.

Yes, I get that, my question though deals with the "recommended NVIDIA Settings" from Foresight. I feels to me that given these recommendations were last made in 2016 that the capabilities of the graphics cards (including mine) may not require you to dial down the settings to "performance" over "quality"

            Thoughts?

I have an RTX2060 and I must admit I have never played with the card settings. Will check it out, but presumably you can easily toggle between the two anyway? Just to test out what works best.

Yeah, unfortunately, FS is not the best at updating things. Who knows if these instructions are still relevant or not. Your guess is as good as anyone else's, but sadly, it's still a guess.
