  • GCQuad Placement

Apologies if this has been asked before but the set-up manual is less than cleat as to the ideal placement for the Quad. I see pictures of the hitting area but it does not seem to match up with the "Ball in hitting area" on screen when I have it set up. Best I can tell is that the center of the zone should be approx 22" in front of the Quad, but I cannot tell how where it should be placed in relation the hitting area left or right of the hitting position. Pictures show it slightly left of the hitting spot but by how much.

Related, I set the measurements into the software on set-up but I cannot figure out how to get back to that screen to adjust based on the fact that I have moved the Quad around.

    Thanks - Jason

The setup is in a separate program, might be called “roomsetup.exe” and I think it’s in the same folder as the FSX application.

Set your distance from screen, image dimensions and the offset position for your Quad from the centreline. Just gotta make sure you applied the setup to the right device (dropdown menu option) and ensure your units and sizes are all correct.

Figure out where you want to hit the ball from, not where you want the quad...

Then, assuming you're a righty, put the quad about 2 feet further in front of you (while addressing the ball) and have the quad forward of that hitting area. Hope that makes sense. Once you place a ball down, the quad will show the hitting area on its screen and exactly where in that hitting area your ball is.

      Hope that helps!

i have found that the room configuration utility needs to be manipulated a bit. If you put in the precise dimensions, it may not look right on screen. Specifically, my normal ball position is about 70cm from the GCQ (I think this is called the Z axis in the setup). If I put that in, the hitting line looks too far left. So I adjust to 1m and it looks right. In the instructions, Foresight does state that there may be some trial-and-error here to get the target line right and match the screen impact point to where the tracer takes off from.

Yes, I think trial and error it is. I think is is set up well now. I used the alignment stick to adjust the target line. It all looks correct. So far have only hit a few shots on the range but pretty pleased so far. Now for a round of golf!

Honestly haven’t had any trouble with room setup or alignment, seemed to be the one thing that actually worked well!

I just bought one (won't show up til next week), and the one big concern I have is somebody catching one on the hosel or way off the toe (perhaps a guest) and having a ball go almost dead right and hit it. What do people do to solve for this? I don't see a protective cover sold anywhere.

I was told by Foresight that the quad was designed to take a side hit without a cover. Mine has been hit a few time without any issues. It has also been hit on top, directly on the display, from bounce back of the screen. The unit is very well built and the ball can't get to the cameras. Shank and toe shots don't have the heat that a direct shot has.

Ditto on the comment about it being able to take a hit.
