  • Foresight Forecaddie review

My intention was to update my original thread, but I can't change the title. I know some people were interested in following this, so I am making a separate post. I received my Forecaddie Friday, and have golfed with it twice now. Pros and cons:

    Pros-
1- The follow feature is awesome. Walking around the course without pushing or carrying is liberating, and I feel much more fresh in the later holes. My course goes from the low elevation of the course on the 8th tee box to the high elevation point on the 9th (a 520 yard par 5) and normally that is where I would start to feel fatigued. So nice to just walk up the fairway and have my cart follow me. It seems to track the remote pretty accurately, and corrects well based on elevation changes etc.

2- The battery life is really good, at least without something else to compare it to. I played both rounds and the indicator showed I still had close to half battery left. I would have tried a third, but the bag room was closed at my club so I had to bring it home and figured I might as well charge it. I'll try it next time.

3- The battery comes out really easy and goes in really easy. No buttons to press and my bag doesn't need to be removed. Makes it easy to take home and charge and leave the cart at the club.

4- It doesn't look like its trying to be some space robot.

5- Coming with a phone holder/wireless charger is a nice plus.

6- Less of a feature for me because I store my clubs, but it sets up/breaks down super quick and easy.

    Cons-
1- The remote control mode utilizing the joystick is bad. Like "unusable" bad. I really hope they make major improvements to it in a firmware update, because I had visions of grabbing my putter, walking to the green, and driving the cart ahead to where I'd walk off the green with the joystick. Currently, this is basically impossible.

2- The power assist mode is only "OK." Because of the fact that the speed never seems perfect, and the fact that it always seems to default to either a higher speed or lower speed than the last use, it requires a lot of fiddling. Around the green and in tight quarters, it is a must to control it this way, and I think that it is a worse experience/more effort than my push cart in those cases.

3- The two molded sections of the handholds (upper and lower) feel like they are starting to come apart already. I hope that it is either a defect that ends up covered under warranty, or just inherent in the design. Preferable the former, as it cheapens the experience.

Overall I feel that it is a great product and I'm happy with the purchase!

Check out the Q follow. It's not available in the states yet, but just put my deposit down. It's the upgrade to the x9. Smaller and more compact.

Nothing new lately, I'm in Maine and it has been in storage since November. That said, I know some others haven't had great luck with theirs. I don't think I could go back to pushing a cart though, if this one dies on me I'll probably end up looking into ordering a Stewart of some sort.

I ordered the Q Follow in January. Due to be delivered on the 10th March. I sold my X9 Follow on eBay a few weeks ago to make room for the new one... so am currently back to a push cart. What a drag that is!

To be honest, I prefer the look of the X9 Follow... but the smaller folded footprint of the Q sold me, and how much easier it’ll be to pick up. Carrying the X9F any distance is a pain in the backside.

The Q looks really sweet. My buddy has the X7 or X9 follow and it’s very bulky looking. This one is the perfect size. He said his doesn’t brake on hills so it’ll run him over. Does the Q brake?

It is supposed to yes. First year out so I guess it remains to be seen. I ended up with the X-9 Follow and other than the issue with the hills, it is awesome. Coming down a hill you either need to be on top of it and slow the speed down which can be a bit of a pain or track the unit left and right like you are downhill skiing. Both are a bit of a PITA and I am glad they seem to have corrected this. Hmm - upgrade in my future????

Yes for sure, this and other features make it a great option IMO. At the time I was ordering there were some questions on reliability, specifically the handles. That and the fact that the follow feature was still listed as Beta pushed me to the X9 Follow. Seems though that most folks are super happy with the Forcaddy and the follow feature seems to work as advertised.

Anyone know what the approximate range is on the remote?

My X9 Follow had brakes (or the motor locks) when going down hills. I guess it depends of the steepness of the hill as even then, it could skid into you - however I’ve never been ‘run down’ by mine in over 2 1/2 years of use. It maintains around a 2m distance from you at all times when in follow mode... so will brake or speed up as necessary to keep this. I play a wide variety of courses, and in Scotland we have lots of links courses with some really steep hills / undulating fairways, and it tends to cope with everything I’ve ever thrown at it... as long as you use a bit of common sense.

The Q follow uses the exact same system as the X9 Follow - just in a different chassis I believe.
There are a few videos of the Q Follow downhill braking on the Stewart Golf Facebook page

Listed as 50m on the Stewart Golf website... although I’ve been much further away and it still works.

I thought for sure that I would be getting the Q Follow when it came out. I gave no consideration to the Forecaddy because of the initial complaints and looks.

I ran across some vimeo spots on the Forecaddy. The follow feature seems to be better than the Q's and there is some motor control on the handle, so not tied entirely to the remote for motor assist.

I really like the way the Q looks, but the Forecaddy features are tough to beat (if the bugs have been worked out) AND it's about $500 cheaper because I was planning on the larger battery and carbon fiber trim òn the Q pre order.

mthunt. Have you received your Forecaddy yet, if so initial impressions?

I bought it but it’s not here yet. It’ll be in this month.

Here’s my first impressions on the Q Follow.

18 holes (very hilly course) only used 31% of the battery. Very impressive!

I cannot speak to the Foresight Sports ForeCaddy. I have the Stewart Golf X9 follow, and I like it a lot and will never carry or use a push cart again. It is interesting, I actually rarely use the follow feature, but maybe I should. The remote for the X9 is very easy to use and I find I use that most, especially with any hazards around or on Par 3's or short par 4's. Where I use the follow feature is on longer walks on par 5's or long par 4's.
