  • DO NOT BUY TGC FOR GCQUAD (July 18, 2020) - READ FIRST

This is a warning to people thinking of buying TGC2019 for GCQuad. Some people on this forum have been able to get TGC2019 working with GCQuad. This was working for me at one point too.

I, along with others, are now experiencing the problem of unable to get GCQuad to push data into TGC2019 through the Protee interface. We know that Protee does not officially support GCQuad so it's doubtful we'll get support there.

This is merely a public service announcement that if you are going to buy GCQuad with the primary driver to use it with TGC2019, please wait. Just wait until the folks who are having these issues can sort it out and provide instructions to fix. This is NOT user error. The steps outlined in another post to get TGC2019 working with GCQuad with the GQSX app showcase "green lights" across the dashboard but fails to make TGC2019 pickup the shot data.

I share this because GCQuad isn't a cheap device and neither is the TGC2019 software. Just hold out for a bit.

This post may get me banned but I'm not saying not to buy TGC2019. Just asking folks to be patient or you will be sorely disappointed if you run into the same issues and it's not fixed.

I'm having the same issue now. It worked great for 2 months ... now it doesn't read any data coming from the GCQuad. Anyone know if there is a fix working? Thanks

Mine is fine as of this afternoon but this makes me super nervous. TGC2019 is way more fun than fsx and idk what to do if it stops working. Is there any particular error messages?

Reading all the posts, this really feels like a Windows update issue. These forums are littered with Windows updates that have stuffed data connections to sim software over the years.

I get the idea (conspiracy theory) that FS could have finally done “something” to block GQSX from wifi listening in order to backstop FSX and e6 sales, but given they never did anything about it with the GC2 I kinda doubt it. That and I hear FS are now forcing you to buy FSX with the Quad anyway, so what’s the point.

I haven’t used my sim for over a week. I’m running Win 10 and GCQ F/W 2.x will report back on whether it’s working later this week.

THank you for posting. Another point for Uneekor EYE when I buy.

I’ve been on the cusp of pulling trigger on GC2 or GCQ but have real pause on jumping into a price point where simulation with third party software becomes either a real pain or a real crapshoot. $3k for their proprietary software for a handful of included courses...idk....not sure portability is worth it for me. Thinking I could do a Uneekor and get on a wait list for Mevo+ and still not have spend as much. Perhaps it won’t be as accurate but perhaps accurate enough.

If you’re certain you don’t want portability, then EYE XO is a good option

Funny you mention that. I purchased a Eyexo and love it. I also will probably get another Mevo+ for outdoor use. I had the same thought process. As good as the GCQ is, I just struggled with the price (And the lefty/righty thing). Uneekor uses the GCQ as a bench test (coming from there developers). This is what they had to say about comparing data.

‘We test simultaneously with GC Quad as it's currently the most reliable photometric technology on the market, so it's a nice benchmark. Our club data as of Saturday, in the words of our developers, is "ALMOST IDENTICAL" right now.”

I have nothing to compare the data, but its numbers are right on for my carry yardages. It seems very accurate. It’s also never missed one shot.

The XO looks like a great option as there are a lot of choices. For me it is mostly about practice and getting better so the GCquad was the right choice for me. I have no desire to use TGC at the moment but that can change over time. If it does I will sell the GCQ and buy an XO.

I play TGC 2019 on my GCQ every night. I upgraded to club data on the quad today and it forced a firmware update. GCQ immediately stopped working with TGC 2019 after firmware update.

Workaround is to have FSX 2020 running at same time as TGC 2019, ProTee and connector application. Has worked fine since.

I completely believe the issue is related to firmware upgrade on the GCQ.

I have tested running both FSX 2020 and TGC 2019 at the same time and have had success with TGC 2019 after it stopped working. Played several rounds, rebooted - played several more.

i don’t believe it to be a Windows issue.

For all the people talking about buying uneekor and other devices etc. There’s nothing stopping you using GC2 and HMT with TGC and other software, and ultimately it’s the same accuracy and features as a quad but a fair whack cheaper.
                  cheers

Is having FSX 2020 required with purchase of GC2? What other sim software connects to GC2 ?

You don't have to buy FSX with a GC2. It works with TGC. I don't know what else but it's the go to for third party software. One was PG but it's gone now.

                • #11
Not quite exactly gone though. Lol

So the new software is using the old software pg? Won't that be a liability?

                • #12
Oh heck no. It’s new software built from ground up, just so happens to be built in Unity. Like PG and TGC is.

Sim golf community is certainly in for a BRIGHT future where it’s finally affordable and updates come with regularity. Between TGC19 and future software, it’s great time to be in this hobby.
