  • GCQ wifi connectivity?

    Hello,

Good chance I'm just dumb here, but I just upgraded from a GC2 to a GCQ, and think that I have to be doing something wrong. I followed the directions on hooking the GCQ up to WiFi, but do I really have to continually swap back and forth from the internet to the GCQ? I need the internet to connect to my FSX Live account, but I need the GCQ to register shots. Seems super clunky if this is actually the case.

or you could have hard wired internet and gcquad on wifi. or else get another wifi adapter they are cheap

You connect to the Quad over it's own private wifi network so you would need an additional network interface for the internet. That could be wifi or ethernet.

Just purchase a dual frequency WiFi adaptor from Amazon. TpLink adaptors are like $20. Easy to setup and will automatically connect every time. They work great!

Alright, less than ideal but not the end of the world. Thanks all!

I agree. i do not know why you cannot connect to Bluetooth and use the wifi for internet. it is not a big deal if the internet is on a hard wire and you have wireless for the GCQ. either way you will need 2 adapters of some sort but it is an easy fix

Bluetooth was disabled to prevent people from using TGC. Not sure why they care when they force you to buy FSX.

mthunt ...BT is enabled on the Quad, but only works for connecting to the FS performance app and FSX mobile. Drops out often though.

I normally use the USB connection for the GCQ as I found it more stable than the WiFi connection (which would not be surprising). But recently during practice sessions I have had the GCQ dropping off briefly, then (usually) reconnecting by itself a few seconds later. Does not happen every time but regularly. It's kind of clunky. Anyone else experience this?

Maybe I will try WiFi again as I did get a separate WiFi dongle for this purpose, but in principle this should not be the fix.

I've been having this happen with wifi. I thought it was the wifi, now I wonder. New firmware is out today so maybe they fixed it?

I have had gcq's for over a year now and still experience it. They insist I send it back for repair, but I had the exact same problem on the gc3's and fixed it with a firmware update.

delaloi I really think this is an FSX2020 thing, it happens on wifi too and more often than with FSX2018.

I’m still using the same f/w version from early 2019, so I don’t believe it’s a hardware or f/w issue.

Thanks. Could be. FSX2020 is a pretty big draw on PC resources -- I was wondering whether my computer might be getting overwhelmed.

Happens with GSP as well as fsx. and with the latest update of fsx (8.5.0.2) it doesn't reconnect itself reliably.

Anybody install the new firmware? Any observable differences (on anything)?

I installed the new firmware last night and it did not resolve or seem to improve the sporadic connectivity loss issue, nor did I notice any operating changes in the GCQ.
