  • How does GCQ update firmware

Can someone help me understand how GCQ updates FW? I've owned it for about a year and there was never a prompt for any FW update. And I don't even think GCQ is connected to wifi so it cannot happen in the background either right? I'm worried bec I run TGC2019 on it and see lots of people being impacted. I'm ok so far and want to know if there is any way to avoid FW update.

Also, I see other people saying that you have to log into your account every 45 days. What is that referring to? Because I dont think i've done so.

    Thanks a lot.

It will never prompt you for a firmware update (unless they change it in the future). Updating is purely optional and you can always find the latest firmware in below link.

Alex Ma You do need to connect to the internet every 45 days though, either by Ethernet to the Quad or via bridged connection through the PC eg wifi to the PC and then PC is connected to the internet via Ethernet or separate wifi.

Are you saying you never connect your GCQ to the net to revalidate the license?

Thanks Adam. That was my question too. At least I never did it intentionally. What I do is I always have my GCQ connected to my PC through USB cable and my PC is connected to internet through wifi. Does license update happen in the background? At least I was never prompted to do anything.

Alex Ma ...ah yep that would be another way. I used mine in offline mode with FSX for the first year, had to connect to the modem via Ethernet every 45 days to revalidate. Now that I use it with TGC (wifi to PC) connected to the internet it seems to update every time I fire up the sim.

It does not update the GCQ firmware automatically. It does check your FSX license automatically and will not allow you to proceed e.g., if your wifi is down and it can't validate (including your location). In that case the GCQ will still work stand-alone but not with FSX.

This never used to be the case. I used FSX offline for 12 months, will check today if it’s still working offline

That makes a lot more sense. I do have fsx connected all the time.

Alex Ma Hey, do you also use TGC with the GCQ USB cable connected? Or do you connect via wifi when using TGC?

Reason I ask is my understanding has always been that GQSX only works over WIFI.

No not USB. USB only works for FSX. To play TGC you have to use WiFi

I got my GCQuad during the week, where is the offline mode for GCQuad and can the GCQuad be used in offline mode to play TGC and FSX as I have a USA version of Quad and I would like to use it in Europe without using a proxy server all the time. Does anyone know if this is possible?

You can use TGC and FSX offline, but with TGC you’ll only be able to access the standard courses that come with the software. The real course recreations from LiDAR etc are all accessed online

you turn it on the FSX live web based account. You will see a link to activate offline. It only lasts for 45 days before you will have to connect to turn authenticate again
