  • Severe backspin with putter

Played TGC2019 last night for the first time with my Quad.

A few times, when hitting long puts, the ball literally back spins as it travels from my fiberbuilt mat to the screen (FB mat is about 1.5-2 in. higher than the floor). The Quad and TGC2019 are actually picking up the backspin: lol

    Anyone else encounter this?

I may need to find a solution to create an even surface for puts to travel from FB mat to screen.

I used to struggle with this in outdoor golf on longer putts where I would hit down on the ball too much and produce back spin. Needing to hit it harder would cause me to change the angle of attack. Obviously the backspin is short lived on a putt until it starts rolling. But if it's hopping up a little after impact there's likely to be some backspin there that the unit is reading. To be honest, I've never once paid attention to spin numbers on putts.

I installed a basic putting mat that extends from my hitting mat to the screen at roughly the same height (just a fraction lower). My distance control on the sim definitely improved once I did that as it provides a more consistent feel from ball to screen.

Thanks for that 3on3putt. Normally, I wouldn't care but tgc2019 was picking it up. Imagine putting, ball goes forward and spins back and ends up further away from the hole. LOL

In TGC make sure it says putter for the club.

It is not an issue of having club = putter or not in TGC. What appears to be the issue is if you get a putt launch angle around 8 or more degrees then TGC goes crazy.. and you get a ball that jumps forward about 3 feet and acts like it has 15000 backspin and comes back to your feet. Every time this happens to me its because I have tried to hammer a putt 60+ feet and that launch angle is not handled properly by the game.

This happens to me using GC2 so it is not specific to GCQuad.

Ah, glad to see I'm not the only one. I thought maybe it was my putting stroke and setup.

That has happened on my quad a couple times. It was never when I was putting though. I noticed every time it happened that the person putting, putted forward and then quickly pulled the butter back. I am not sure if this had anything to do with it but every time it happened, I told them to hold a follow-through and it never happened again with them. Maybe it was just a coincidence.
