  • Projector Advice Needed - New Simulator Setup GCQuad

Hi - new to the forum as this is my first simulator setup. I'm looking for projector advice as its the last piece of the puzzle but having a lot of difficulty finding the right piece. My setup is in the garage (11 ft celings) and its as follows:

Net return pro series net and simulator screen (aspect ratio is 4:3)
    Gcquad
    Gaming computer

I just bought the Optoma GT1080HDR but having second thoughts about it. I originally was going to mount to the ceiling however I now think it will be better for my setup to place the projector off to the side and use the horizontal lens adjustment to center on screen (along with possibly using keystone correction). There are a number of projectors in my price range (1k-2k) that have vertical and horizontal keystone correction (like the GT1090HDR) however not many that have the lens adjustment. I found an Optoma X515, has anyone had any experience with it? Does anyone have any other suggestions that might work? Ive used the projectorcentral.com site and there are limited options with 4:3 aspect, $1--2k, horizonal lens adjustment. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Panasonic PT-VZ580U is very good but is not short throw. Not sure how big your screen is but you can look up throw distance on projector central. it has zoom as well as horizontal and keystone corrections

Am I correct in understanding that the Optoma 1090HDR does not have the lens adjustment? So putting the projector on a table off to the side will negatively affect the image?

the 1090 has keystone correction but i was looking for lens shift (in addition to keystone)

another one I came across is the Eiki EU-308U - anyone have any experience with this one?

Probably hard to find in a laser with that price point, but I cold be wrong. Have you considered floor mounting?

            I got the eh460st

go for a short throw projector and mount to ceiling if you can.

works prefect for me. 9ft ceilings and I get 14 x 8ft after offset of short Throw projector.

If you can mount to ceiling, lowest maintenance

Not sure it helps but one of the SIM IN A BOX threads mention that their unit is the Eiki EU-308U, so there may be some feedback on it available from someone here.

I don't have any first hand experience with it. Projector Central would have been my go to recommendation, so good luck in your hunt.

That is the projector that Foresight uses and from what I hear it is a pretty good projector.

I have the eiki 308u. It is bright and nice. It came with my sim in a box. I still think the vz580u is better and whet par2pro sells. I am happy with the eiki. But would not have it if it was not included I would have bought the 1090 or the 580u

May I ask why you are opting for off to side rather than ceiling?

I have an 11' ceiling, and am hitting about 9' away from the screen. The projector (EPSON 7500U) I chose was the most complicated part of the process. I'm an engineer by trade so I had to do a lot of analysis to make myself happy. I did simple ray diagrams to convince myself that my head or club wouldn't be on the screen, that my club wouldn't hit the projector on the ceiling, tec. Cheap projectors always seemed to lack some feature I thought was necessary to make the simulator setup just right. And I was also interested in the possibility of using it as a TV screen for Super Bowl or similar. I also use the split screen feature to put youtube lessons on one half and Foresight on the other but it isn't convenient for me. I am super happy with the setup, have plenty of brightness, and have resolution for future upgrades to FSX which might occur. It isn't something you want to buy again. I wanted horizontal and vertical lens adjustments, and I mounted it to the ceiling, centered on the screen- but not centered on my hitting area which is offset about 2' as I only have RH players.
