  • GC Hawk - Hitting Area Question

    Owners of GC Hawks:

Random question: it appears there a "dead zone" between right and left handed play. Hypothetically, if one was a right handed player, and had a True Strike mat on the left side and a FiberBuilt abutting it on the right side, could you hit a ball from the True Strike side (right handed player side) and still pick up a shot if you hit right handed from the FiberBuilt mat (but hitting right handed from the left handed player zone of the Hawk)?

If so, any downside from having two different types of mat to hit off of to practice?

Yes I think you could, the data would just be lefty biased when you hit from the left zone if you had club data. IE a ball curving left to right would be a hook instead of a slice etc. I have hit out of the lefty zone before.

This is the first time that I have seen this diagram. It seems to me that the light blue area is a hitting zone for the ball data only. The darker blue area is the area to hit from if you want club data measured as well as ball data.

I doubt it’ll pick up the shot if you hit right handed from the left handed side.

Like Jwm, I have also hit balls from the left hitting side - I have a Fiberbuilt 4x8 foot hitting mat - and the Hawk will pick up the ball, no problems. What I cannot confirm is, like Jwm says, if the Hawk will interpret the left side as a lefty and skew the info if you're a righty.

Ah yes, I see now. Ball hitting area is way bigger than club data area. It does make sense if you are a righty hitting from the left hand hitting box that the club data would get all discombulated.

But for sim play, since club data doesn't matter, it appears the ball hitting area encompasses all. And no dead spot for just ball data?

Not a huge video guy but I’ll try to throw something on youtube if I can find my iphone tripod. No promises but I’ll give try.

GCHawk will not see a ball in the "dead" zone when club data is on, nor will it register strikes.
