  • On FSX, if your impact screen is 8' away, a 10' shot looks 18' long

I'm curious if this bothers anyone else? It makes it a lot harder to play feel shots around the hole.

I'm talking about the camera before you play your shot. My impact screen is 8' away from me. So, for example, if I'm 10' from the pin, the pin should appear just 2' past my impact screen, but the way it's drawn makes it looks 18' away.

With the room-setup program they already know where the GCQuad is in relation to my impact screen.

If anyone is confused about what I mean, here's a reference: https://imgur.com/a/pWNRmjn. Note where my ball actually is with the red arrow. And then the pink arrow shows what's drawn on my impact screen. But given that my impact screen is 8' from me, it really shouldn't include a couple feet of rough in front of the ball.

Doesn't your example say the pin is 16 yards away and not 16 feet?

The image isn't the same as my example since it's not as simple. The image is 15 yard shot over: 1' of rough, 5' of fringe, and 12 yards of green, right? So my impact screen is 8' away and so it shouldn't render the rough or fringe. The rough is only 1' in front of my ball, my ball is 8' away from the impact screen. Drawing rough on the impact screen implies the rough extends to at least 8' in front of the ball.

To your question, yes, it does bother me too but not enough. I have to look at the distance and guesstimate how far I'll be hitting it in relation to the distance to the screen.

Right, that's what I do too. I look at map, figure out the distance I want to hit it, then ignore the FSX image that's drawn and just hit to a number. I think that's a bit unfortunate as it wouldn't be that hard to just have an accurate visual representation of what the user would see.

I really don't follow. The screenshot says you are 18yds away. If you are close to the hole FSX will show the ball at the bottom of the screen. So, if you have 10 ft to the hole you will have 10ft on the screen to the hole. So you can see the whole putt for example. In that case your screen distance is irrelevant. If you don't see your ball on the bottom of the screen then the view is offset (back) from the distance of you screen.

With the screenshot why is you aim line way away from your ball at the red arrow. Not sure what is going on there.

So on the screen, you can see there's 1' of rough and 2-3' of fringe, and then 15 yards of green, right? But then my impact screen is 8' away, so I shouldn't see any rough or fringe on it. That's visually incorrect. I shouldn't see anything that's within 8' from the ball, unless it was drawn on the ground, between me and the impact screen.

I think I would prefer to see the ball at the bottom of the screen for shots around the green at least, if not for every shot.

For shots that are close, I use my screen to measure my distance. I'm like 8.5 feet away and a putt to the screen is roughly 10' on my setup. A 10 yard chip is a certain point on my screen...up from there, I focus on takeaway.

Yeah, I do the same. I think that's a little disappointing though. You have to just ignore what's on the screen and hit to a number. If I want to hit a 8' shot, I know I need to land it right on the bottom of my screen. But the bottom of my screen might show rough, when 8' away is green. It's visually confusing so you have to ignore the visual and go with feel to a number.
