  • FSX Course Poll - Lets rank them so we know which ones to consider purchasing

I was looking for info on which courses to purchase. I could not find a good list so here we go. List your top 10 courses starting with your favorite. If you do not have 10, rank what you have. Do not list the five that come with the FSX software.

My site already has a ranking system if people would use it it would benefit all.

mmlincon has done a ton of work to allow viewing/ranking courses. Rather than a new listing, it would be super if www.mdmsg.com were a 'sticky' and we would all agree to use it. Or periodically post the reminder when someone asks about best courses. I should do my part and add my reviews, not just talk about it, eh?

I was not aware of that. Thanks

i use your website often, and thank you for posting ever course. But I don’t see any input about ranking.
I am between these. Do you have an opinion.
      1. Hanauma Cliffs- I know is hard but looks great!
      2. Emirates - I think this is one is a good balance of looks and difficulty.
      3. Doral- not my favorite by looks.
      4. Abu-Dhabi- I think it has the looks and is the most forgiving.
      5. Hidden Shoals- water version of Hanauma. Very cool looking.
What are you thoughts. I want something different than normal trees.

My theory is that there is a designer that does really good courses at Foresight and then there is everyone else that does the majority of weak designs. I look for courses that appear to be done by the good designer and refuse to spend money on the lazily designed and boring layout courses. There are far too many no-name courses that are on nobody's bucket list or have never and will never host a tournament of any real notoriety.

My son is an elite competitive golfer and he kicks my butt. As of now, I have the following courses:

Ballyowen - To me, this is an exceptional course for simulator golf. It is fun, pleasing to look at and just seems to work in ways that the headliners don't. I can't recommend this one enough.
Blue Bayou - I rarely play it, but the community challenges recently have made me interested in it again. I think the frog or bug noises keep me from playing it more.
Broken Tree - Totally ridiculous, I try it maybe once a year.
Carnoustie - Glad I have it, but don't seem to play it as much as I thought I would. Maybe it is because it is so flat.
Celtic Manor - I thought I would like this one more, but it is very pretty
Coeur D'Alene - This is fun, but it is more about a few holes than the entire round in my opinion.
Colonial - I really like the tournament and texas vibe here. Nothing spectacular, but I'm glad I have it.
Congressional - I like this course a lot but there are other US Open courses in FSX that I would rate ahead of it.
Doral - Not as beautiful or vibrant as other courses, but challenging and varied. My son plays it a lot for its risk/reward options.
Emirates - A visually nice course to play, but nothing too memorable about it. We play it very little.
Flint Hills - This is a great course and is very well done by the Foresight designer.
Hanauma - This is fun, but we don't seem to pick it as much as the others. The greens are extremely unforgiving
Linfield - Fun enough, but doesn't get a ton of play.
Longleaf - When I want to scratch the Pinehurst itch, this is my go to.
Merion - I had to have it for the US Open history
        Oakmont - Ditto
Pebble Beach - Just get it
Quail Hollow - Nice, but not as spectacular as some other championship courses in FSX
Spanish Bay - I would buy it again, great course
Spyglass Hill - Worth it, but I would get Pebble Beach first.
Teton Pines - Fun and pretty, but rarely play it
The Crossing - No interest. Seriously, why does Foresight make courses like this?
Wentworth West - Great tournament vibe with the stands and TV towers.
Willow Crest - Don't remember it, so I guess that's my review

        My Son's Top 5
        Ballyowen
        Pebble Beach
        Spanish Bay
        Coeur D'Alene
        Doral

        My Top 5
        Pebble Beach
        Spanish Bay
        Ballyowen
        Flint Hills
        Wentworth West

This is a great write-up and has similar recommendations to what I'd say. My favorites are:

          1. Spanish Bay
          2. Pebble
          3. Tempete
          4. Chicago Highlands
          5. Quarry

I don't really like flat links courses on the simulator since I play with lie penalty off and you can just spray it anywhere on those. I prefer a lot of water or OB for the same reason. I actually play Spanish Bay 50%+ of rounds and pick from others when I want to mix it up. I don't have Ballyowen but you're making me think about buying it.

Ballyowen is easily my favorite FSX course. Minot CC is also very fun with lots of interesting holes.

If you buy tgc2019 you won't play any of them. I just use the range on fsx2020. The tour and the discord site with all the live matches is a real hoot. Still haven't played a full round on one and the scramble mode seems glitchy or I would use that occasionally. Didn't mean to hijack my bad just had to open me mouth cause you all are missing out

Wizard - I keep hearing this on TGC2019, I have seen it and it is really cool but played it on a skytrack which was not a great experience due to so many misreads on wedges.
s there a link on detailed instructions of having both?
My biggest fear is I buy this, mess up the install and everything stops working. My sim is in the garage and my internet is iffy.
Do I need to hardwire my connection for this to work?
How much free space do I need on my laptop?
Is it easy to switch back and for for the range on FSX and course on TGC?

          Thanks,

I use asus bt500 connection for tgc2019 and fsx2020. I have hard wired the fsx2020 but I don't like the wire and I like to see my numbers on the gc2 screen. Foresight channel on this site has instructions. You just download the gsx software and that connects the gc2 to tgc2019 Bluetooth connection.
