  • Driver goes to the right?

I've just set up my GC2 /Swingbay simulator. I'm a 2 handicap and play a little draw with all clubs. All seems to be working fine until I hit a driver. The GC2 always shows the ball going way out to the right. The irons seem to be reading fine and the ball flight is as I would expect.

At first I thought it was just me, but my swings "feel" like to do on the real driving range and I went out to the range and hit 20 balls with the driver and didn't miss any to the right. I immediately came back to try the simulator and didn't hit a single drive that wasn't at least 20 yards right and cutting.

Could it be something about how I am teeing the ball up with the simulator? Have I set something up incorrectly?

It takes a lot of time to get used to swinging a driver inside, and the tendency is to ease up a little bit which might be affecting your release. The best thing to do would be to take it to the driving range with you and hit balls there. You should be able to tell from the spin axis/sidespin reading on the GC2 display if it is a fade (right angle or spin) or a draw (left angle or spin) assuming you are right handed. I think the rule of thumb is something like 1 degree of side angle launch is offset by 4 degrees of sidespin in the opposite direction. So if you launch it 2 degrees right with a spin axis of 8 degrees left, the shot is going to end up close to straight overall.

Thank you! I will give that a try this weekend.

I was having a similar issue when I first set up my GCHawk. Outside I hit a high cut with driver, inside was hitting diving hooks. I was flinching a little because of the indoor effect. Loud smack of the ball against the screen, fear of bouncebacks etc will go away after you get comfortable in the room. Had a plus handicap buddy over as well and he hit 20 drivers that you could lay a beach blanket over and it became clear I was the broken one.

Haha, yeah, indoor effect only if it's your own house and your things that you'll break!

I just wanted to post back on this........a little over a year later. It took a while, but I'm able to hit the driver in the simulator now. It took a long time, purely mental. For roughly the first 6 months of ownership I was just playing one set of tees forward on the simulator courses because hybrid was the longest club I could hit comfortably. Now I hit driver, etc. just fine.
