  • GCQuad - do I need FSX 2020?

    Hi folks-

I know this has probably been answered before but cant seem to locate on the forum. Thinking about purchasing a GCQuad for home sim use and wondering whether it makes sense to buy the FSX 2020 software. I am thinking about just purchasing TGC2019 and using that for my sim and practice use. I use FSX at my local GolfTec shop and not overly impressed with the course graphics / choice of courses.

    A few questions:

1). Sounds like GCQuad to TGC2019 is working well for folks. I have read about the potential Foresight would disable by encrypting Bluetooth, etc.. Seems to be a remote chance so willing to take the risk

2.). What do I lose out on if I don't purchase FSX2020? In particular, interested in using the Quad for practice in home sim.. Can I get the same level of data (ball, club, etc..) through TGC2019 as I would get in FSX2020? Does the Quad come with any other software (eg fitting) that doesnt require additional purchase? Anything else I should be aware of in terms of issues with not using FSX2020?

Really appreciate any guidance folks can provide. I am obviously willing to spend the money if it makes sense but want to make an informed decision before moving forward.

    Thanks much

I don't own a quad, but was considering it earlier in the year and asked similar questions to you. I could be wrong, but as I recall:
    1) you have to have FSX2020 to use TGC2019
    2) you won't get any club data from FSX or anywhere else unless you buy the club data add-on.

gojoholo is right on with his two responses.

I bought TGC2019 even though I had FSX2020. The appeal of having 'unlimited' courses was better than buying courses from FSX2020 on top the $3k price for the software. In the end, I use FSX2020 far more than TGC2019. If you're serious about improving your game and wanting to see realistic shot feedback, FSX2020 is really good. If you want to primarily play games, you can't go wrong with both if you don't mind paying the price per course for FSX2020. The high bounce issue is a bit annoying on TGC2019 though but good enough.

Graphics of course on TGC2019 are far better.

If I want to play the FSX2020 premium courses, I use TGC2019. For others, it's a toss up. TGC2019 has more realistic golf courses I've played in real life and when my home course has the LIDAR data ready, I can build it out as well. With FSX2020, I won't get to build my own courses.

I own fsx2020 and tgc2019 with dual gc2. The ball physics are superior in fsx2020 as far as ball flight. Which is better reaction with turf for sim play that's debatable, but tgc2019 has a huge flaw. If you play with guys and hit the occasional worm burner or need to punch out tgc2019 is quite unrealistic. That being said the course quality and quantity makes it tolerable. Practice and training, especially with a quad, it's not even close, quad with fsx2020 wins.
