  • GC2 USB connection to Windows 10 Pro not working

    I've got GC2+HMT, running version 4.0.0.15. I can connect to my PC via Bluetooth with no issues. However, when I try to hook up the GC2 via USB it gives me an error. I've downloaded the latest driver from foresight already. When I go to my device manager, I see this error: "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

    Has anyone run into a similar issue?

    You may need to check and see if your USB chipset needs an update. Are you connecting the USB cord to the motherboard or the laptop? You will want to avoid USB hubs or dongles.

    Laptop: Head over to the manufacturer's website and enter your model number. Check for utilities/software updates relating to USB. Read me files should be in the download.

    Prebuilt Desktop ie Dell/HP: Head over to the manufacturer's website and enter your model number. Check for utilities/software updates relating to USB. Read me files should be in the download.

    Desktop: Find your motherboard information ie Asus/Gigabyte/MSI. Find the model information and head to their website as well. They will list updates to USB chipsets under most support tabs.

      Maybe try to connect it to another computer and eliminate anything going on with your hardware? Again make sure it's not plugged into a USB hub. It needs to be directly connected to the back of the desktop on the motherboard or to the laptop.

    I have my GC2 connected to a win 10 pro desktop via USB cable and it works just fine. I vaguely remember such an error a few years ago wen I inadvertently kicked the GC2 end of the cable partially out of the female GC2 connector. The computer still knew there was a USB input but it couldn't figure out what it was ego the error message. BTW the connection to the computer interfaces via a USB connector on the back of the desktop.

      Also, what do you mean by “usb connector”? I’m just using the USB-USB mini cord that came with the GC2 and plugging it directly into my PC. Is there something else I need?

      Nope, that should be it. Maybe uninstall and reinstall Foresights software? Aside from trying another PC, you can try to eliminate the cord from the equation. I had this problem one time where I was accidentally using a "charge only" USB cable. Obviously, cheap charge only cords won't transmit data. Try hooking another device that uses USB mini and see if you can access files or if Windows recognizes the other device.

      This post is kinda old but there was some good information on the order of installing drivers and updating firmware.

      Has anyone had an issue getting their GC2 to connect to the computer with the USB cord so as to update the GC2’s firmware? According to Protee, I need to

      Yea, I went through that post before I wrote mine. I’ve tried two cables and I’ve plugged each into all 5 USB ports on the machine and still got the error. I can’t confirm if this is a data or charge only cord though, so I ordered another one to try and hopefully that does the trick. I also tried on another laptop and got the same error.

    No just kicked it kind of loose. The mini usb connector on the GC2 doesn't have the tightest fit. In order to keep this from happening in the future I have the cable zip tied to the metal enclosure case around the GC2.;

      I ended up sending it in to foresight to be fixed. I’ll update the thread once I get the diagnostic and price to fix.

        Maybe try another usb cable? It's possible they sent a faulty one.

          I’ve tried 4 or 5 different cables and all the different types (2.0/3.0) and the different inputs on the PC. After a couple long calls with Foresight and a remote session on my PC with their techs, it seemed to be clear something was wrong with the GC2.

        They just got back to me. USB connection needs to be replaced and they’re doing a firmware update... $370! I’ll post back once I get the GC2 back and confirm it’s in working order.
