  • Flightscope X3 vs. Trackman 4 launch monitor / non-simulator software feedback

    Hi,

Currently have a GC2/HMT and play a ton of indoor simulator golf due to living in Michigan. Will be permanently moving to a new place where golf / range work is available all year round. Would like feedback from anyone who has used both TM4 and X3 and their associated software from a game improvement perspective. This will only be used outdoors. The cost of the X3 is compelling, but don't know how the software, overall compares.

Also, many moons ago (before I bought the GC2), I had a Flightscope unit (I think an X2?). It was used indoors and it was terrible even with the metal dot. I think the X2 was fairly new at the time and firmware was a mess. I worked with Flightscope and they actually customized the firmware for my unit and it still was no bueno. That was about 6 years ago (again, not sure it was the X2, but it was a newly issued model).

I have used Trackman a bunch and am comfortable with it. A little gun-shy on the X3 due to my previous experience, but if folks have personal experience that those sorts of issues have been resolved a long time ago, then I will put that aside and it just comes down to software.

As far as software, thinking things like range, putting, wedge, and combine type software.

Thanks so much for any input.

I can’t answer your specific question re comparison of software, but if this will be used for outdoor only, then you could save some cash and get a TM3e, which is still a great unit and allows you to use the same full TPS software as TM4 (just would not be able to take advantage of impact location, putting nor VG2).

Thx Dax. Will the TM 3e be able to leverage the AI capability that TM is releasing which provides some feedback / coaching on improving your swing? Ie TRACY.

That’s a good question that I don’t know the answer to. While I suspect it should work given that it is imbedded k to TPS software, this would be a good question to ask TM directly. They are great at answering questions and sorry I don’t know the specific answer to yours, but Tracy came out right when I was switched to my TM4. From a performance perspective, I know what my weaknesses are and Tracy does a great job spotting the issues as well. Just need lockdowns to ease so I can work with my coach again.
