New (certified pre-owned) GC2 owner with questions

    Hi All,

so I just received my certified pre-owned GC2 from golf town today. It’s a A7### serial number. I’m moving from a skytrak but so far find the numbers I’m getting are much lower on the GC2. Does any calibration need to be done? I’m having trouble believing 180 yards carry is the best I could do on GC2 with driver. For reference, on the skytrak range I usually carry driver 225-250. Other clubs are also off so I’m wondering if something is wrong with the unit I got.

i have read around and see this could be flash related, but imagine the “certified pre-owned” process has already put in a new flash.

on a separate note. I have requested pro tee to transfer my TGC 2019 and I’m a little confused about how to get it working, even after following the sticky. Basically protee sent me some links and a new license key, however when I enter the new license key to the protee interface I get a message saying “sorry, the license key entered is invalid...” I also noticed that the machine ID in the protee interface is different from the one on the TGC sim console. Hopefully I’ll get this resolved with them tomorrow, but any tips would certainly help.

    thanks

Did anything else change at all when switching from Skytrak to GC2?
I made that switch a couple years ago, but I did it at roughly the same time I moved my set up to a room with lower ceiling and I was probably making swing changes. I think my problem was excess draw/fade not carry distance. I eventually accepted that it was my fault not the machine's.
If anything, I think the GC2 is a bit friendly on my driver distance vs Skytrak, as the GC2 and FSX seems to give lower spin drives a bit more carry than the Skytrak algorithm.
I never tried running both off the same ball.
225y to 180y is a huge difference. How is the ball speed, launch angle, spin axis readings on the GC2 differing from what you remember of your Skytrak readings? Is it all ball speed drop or something else? To get 225 to 250 of carry, you would need 130 or more of ball speed even at ideal launch and spin conditions. Were you getting that before but not now? But 130mph ball speed with a low launch and big sidespin might only get you only 180y of carry.

Nothing has changed with set-up except the unit. So my numbers on Skytrak usually ranged from 135 to 145mph ball speed, with 18-21* launch, and roughly 2024(lol) to 3500 back spin, and 2-3* spin axis left.

I’m really struggling to get the GC2 to carry over 200 yards and sometimes get 160-175... that’s my 6 iron distance. I’ll trying doing a driver session latter and post the numbers.

    Are the units in meters?

Yeah I checked that a few times also as I was sure that was the issue. But no distance is set to Yards.

As GarnetGolf says check it's not in meters, when I moved from Skytrak to GC2 my carry numbers went up not down. With regards to the license key I think I also had this issue. I just sent Protee the new machine ID and they sorted it with a new license key.

Thanks, got the set-up working on TGC2019 now, super happy. Just need to figure out my carry distance issues.

You're talking about an awfully large discrepancy here, and it doesn't sound like you're saying "the numbers don't add up" but rather "these numbers don't match my swing"?

Going to be hard for anyone to confirm or deny that unless you can show a video or something.

          Ok hi all,

I was trying to find the best way to capture this. So I took a look at my recorded shots from protee united society events. Pebble was played on my Skytrak whereas Riveria was played on GC2.
          Here are the results.

Unit Ball Speed Launch Back Spin Carry
          Skytrak 131 mph 19.8 3666 200
          GC2 122 mph 20.8 3905 180

On Skytrak, out of 27 driver attempts, I carried over 200 17 times.
On GC2. out of 26 driver attempts, I carried over 200 ONLY 2 times.

Attached are the details of each shot.

Something is definetly off with my certified pre-owned GC2

Do you have access to an outdoor range still? If so, take the gc2 with you and laser a target around 200 yds and see if it matches. Use a few of your own balls that you don’t mind donating to the range. Should be able to easily tell if it’s landing short or long if the target

Those spin numbers and launches are very, very high. Not sure why the ballspeed is so different but you are certainly leaving alot on the table with those spins.

Many LPGA pros have ball speeds in upper 120s with near ideal launch conditions and tend to carry it 205-210. Checkout the chart below. If nothing else you can work on delivery of the clubface to maximize those numbers, probably losing out on 15-20 yards. Click image for larger version

Yes I know my numbers aren’t ideal, I’m working on it 😀 My goal is to get ball speed to between 140-150 , launch at 17-18* with spin at 2500.

For now I’m trying to figure out why I’m essentially getting on average 9mph less ball speed and 20yards less carry with the GC2 compared to Skytrak.

Stop focusing on the carry. The only thing that matters here is the ball speed difference. It's a large enough gap that one of them is wrong. SkyTrak is great but I'm not sure what has changed since I got rid of mine. I know they did some boosting to try to rectify low numbers for fast swingers, but I don't know to what extent. If I were to guess which is wrong though I'd say it's the SkyTrak.

The only way you will know is to take the GC2 outdoors as suggested above. Or go to a Dick's and hit on the GC2 they have in store.

Ok thanks to everyone. Unfortunately, up here in Montreal, ranges won’t open until mid April...

I’ll try to bring it to a retail golf store and get some shots on their GC2 to see if I see a difference.

            cheers

Quick update on this. So I have a fiberbuilt mat and have been using Birtee #5 (blue). This was the best one for me when using skytrak. So I decided to pop in one of those adjustable fiberbuilt tees into my mat, and bingo, ball speeds back up to 135-145... has anyone had an issue with Birtees interfering with the GC2?

im just happy my numbers are back to “normal”, now I just need to optimize a little.

Almost everyone here uses Birtees without issue. But whatever works for ya

What color is the BirTee? I believe Mario suggests not to use the white ones with the GC2

Blue, I bought for the skytrak, but have since changed.
Yes Mario is very helpful and ensures we get the right ones for our machines.

No issues with birtee and GC2 here. Is fiberbuilt tee the same height as birtee #5? You could be hitting lower on the face with #5 birtee thus with lower ball speed.

are you having same GC2 lower ball speed issue with irons?

Fiberbuilt tee is adjustable. What I’m thinking is 5 is too low 6 is too high, so the adjustable tee is probably set right in the middle for optimal contact.

Haha good one, half size birtees...
Still not sure why on Skytrak ball speeds were ok and GC2 not using the birtee. But oh well I’ll tinker a little and try to figure it out.

That’s correct, white birtees and white shoes will cause misread. I have white Ecco golf shoes and I put painter’s tape on the front of the shoes to prevent misreads.
