  • Looking help from experience with GCQUAD and FSX2020

    Hello

I am a new GCQUAD and FSX user and there have risen many questions. Hopefully you guys can answer and shed light on topics.
Also if you are giving insight. Please respond with question number. So i have better overview.

1.). When i am playing the course there in the bottom is text ``FLIER CHANCE´' What is this? What it tells me or i can do with it?

2.) In real golf you can take new shot from the same lie with +1 penalty to score. Is it possible with the game somehow?

3.) What conditions have most effect on game play?

4.). When i am playing the course there in the bottom is text ``SAND PENALTY´' What is this? What it tells me or i can do with it?

    Thank you
    Martti

    I'll answer on the penalties...

Honestly, after years of going back and forth on penalities...is much more enjoyable and realistic to just turn them off. A flier chance will likely fly 20% further about 50% or more of the time.

Sand penalty is usually 50%, so that means to hit a shot 50 yards, you need to hit a shot 100 yards, but not necessarily and it has jumped around lately and it dumb, especially from the fairway. Turn it off and get more out of your practice from hitting the correct yardage.

      Well said! 100% agree.

I think Baller is correct on the penalties:
        • Flier Chance is usually the first position in the light rough. It seems to me that you get a Flier around half the time, and when you do it's something like 10% further carry, and less spin, on your shot. Frustrating, but that's the price you pay for missing the fairway.
        • Sand Penalty is about 40% off your carry distance. The same for greenside and fairway bunkers. Sand Penalty in fairway bunkers is one of my least favorite aspects of FSX gameplay. It can mean the difference between hitting 7-iron into a green, or not being able to reach it at all. For this reason I do not like FSX courses with lots of fairway bunkers (e.g., Olazabal Mission Hills).
        • There is also Lie Penalty for a second layer of rough (about 15% off carry distance) and on some courses Severe Lie Penalty (seems more variable, up to as much as 60%+ off carry distance).
What I do not agree with is turning off lie penalties. If you do that, it largely does not matter where you hit the ball. In the rough, in the bunker, wherever -- it's all the same. To me that is not golf. Links courses in particular become totally pointless. The way FSX does the various lie penalties is sometimes unpredictable and sometimes frustrating, but real golf is like that too. If you want to best simulate real golf, keep lie penalties enabled. If you turn them off it's just a fancy driving range.

In the end, you’re still hitting off a mat into a screen. Lie penalties or not, simulators are literally just fancy driving ranges (aka target practice).
