  • FSX 2020 Ideal Monitor Setup suggestions

In some of the Foresight marketing they show a home sim with 3 TV's mounted on the wall and what appears to look like a smaller touch screen down below.

I have historically had trouble getting the dual monitor setup working right. Maybe I just get confused which is supposed to be the primary monitor etc.

That said, I'm moving my sim into a new room and its getting a big upgrade. Equipment I have.
    • Projector/impact screen.
    • 3 43" TV's
    • 2 23" Touch screen monitors
    • a handful of HDMI splitters.

I'm curious what ya'll are running...what the ideal monitor setup is from ya'lls perspective.

Unless you’re setting up swing cameras, all those displays seem like overkill. Unless you can have a ballgame or something on one of the other displays.

Sorry I should have clarified. Not planning to use them all. Just that's what i have available to me.

The goal is to have the club/ball data on a screen on the wall. I like the TV's so friends sitting around can see. but prefer the touch screens during actual game play. Unless there are tricks to game play that don't contantly require getting the keyboard/mouse out.

I have 3 smart tv's, a projector, and my gaming laptop, so 5 total "displays".

*everything is connected to my wireless router in the garage with the laptop being hardwired to the network which has stabilized my Quad/FSX i think because I don't have true high speed available

*Everything but the laptop is connected to an off air antenna in the attic which gives me access to most all the local and national sports I need

        * I have Directv and have that connected to the two largest tv's for watching multiple games or in the instance of The Masters used one to display the leaderboard full time via the smart browser

*Via bluetooth i can manually "mirror" the other displays, including my iPad, to those two largest tv's

For the actual FSX setup i have as follows
*The gaming laptop hardwired via HDMi to the projector and the laptop is also hardwired via USB to the third TV
*through the windows desktop settings for multiple displays I "mirror" the laptop on the projector for FSX game play and program navigation
*The smaller USB wired TV is set through the windows display settings as a second monitor and for me goes online once its powered on and FSX is open
*this TV is almost exclusively my on screen data and replay display, I also switched the audio settings to this TV so the audio for the computer goes through this tv
*I also "dragged" Firefox to this screen and it now permanently resides there if I want to watch youtube lesson videos or go to amazon or whatever inteneting needs may be
*I run the web camera on my laptop as my swing camera in FSX, i just clicked the window and FSX recognized it immediately in the drop down menu..

I have tried running FSX Pro and FSX2020 simultaneously with this set-up... it took a little reconfiguring and did work but it bogged my machine down and was jumpy but I felt like i was getting the best of both worlds. My machine just doesn't have the horsepower to run it smoothly

Finally, I am a MAC guy and haven't really operated a windows machine in 10 years but the FSX requirements changed that. Still, it was pretty intuitive to setup once i played around with the Windows desktop setting for a while. Once I had the displays setup in windows I had no problem with the display settings in FSX

A couple months ago my wife walked into the garage and looked around and said "how many F!cking tv's do you have?!" which confirmed to me i have the right number.

        Hope this helps

Thanks Baller, I think what I really want is the project to basically show the course/hitting view. I want a mounted TV that shows all the club/ball data...and a touch screen that allows me to easily navigate FSX etc.

I think I'm just really struggling with what goes where on the monitors. I'm not sure FSX can be setup the way I want.

Nope. not how it is now. We can only hope it's better in the next release. You can have a screen show only the hitting view and the others be the main screen that has controls and cams and stuff, but that's as good as it gets right now. I have 3 screens with projector and I have my projector and one set up as main and the other is shows the hitting, but it's worthless.

If you boot up FSXPro on the monitor then run FSXPlay on the projector you will get all the club data on the second screen. It works perfectly. I should mention you have to launch the apps in the order otherwise it will crash. FSXPRO then FSXPLAY Also you will have to fiddle with the in app display setting so that both apps are set up to the proper display prior to launch otherwise it might crash.

As far as a display goes. Could I just connect a 4k HDTV to my laptop using an HDMI cable? I want to mount it on the wall of my garage. Any TV brand suggestions?

I have a GCQuad and I'm running FSX 2020 on my PC, projector "extended" from main display, that way I can run the projected image at 4K which helps with definitions. Then I run FS Performance on an iPad (air model) which is then displayed on a 32" TV with a wall mount showing the club data. My PC can drive 4 monitors, but I could never get 3 of them set up the way I wanted to, even after watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDVu4aDbAuM It's like 7 layer chess. You'll need to connect the iPad to the lunch monitor via wifi, and the PC via USB, but that's what works for me.

Does your ipad output to the TV at 16:9? Or is it the ipad's native aspect ratio? Thanks!

It's at the iPad's native resolution, so I've got black bars on the side of the TV, but that doesn't really matter to me, since we're just reading data from it, not watching the golf ball.
