  • Computer for FSX 2000 & GC Quad

Trying to get away with using my work laptop for a few until I get a gaming PC.

The display adapter is an AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics
Processor is AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U 2.3 GHz

Sorry, don't know much about computers. Thanks!

I am sure you have checked the recommended specs for FSX2020:

    FSX 2020 v7.7.1.1

    System Requirements:

    (minimum spec)
    • Operating System: Windows 7 or greater (64 Bit Required) Works well with Win 8.1, & 10.
    • Processor: Min Spec: Intel i5 or i7 processors (AMD processors not recommended)
    • Memory: Min Spec: 8GB system memory
      Recommended: 16GB for best performance
    • Video Card: Min Spec: Nvidia GTX 1050 ti or greater (AMD GPUs not supported)
      Recommended: GTX 1060, 1660 or 1070, RTX 2060 Premium: RTX 2070 or 2080
Some have had some success with AMD but while I am not an expert, the processor seems like maybe it would run, but the GPU looks light. And then there is the comment above about not supporting AMD GPUs and that AMD processors are not recommended. Not sure it will work out well for you, but even if you did, you might have a challenge getting support. My two cents.

Thanks bro. Any recommendations where I can get one for cheap spec'd out above? This is the only thing it will be used for.

Depends largely on where you are located and what exactly you are after (future-proofing, or ability to upgrade-wise) and if you are interested in building your own. I generally encourage folks to do the latter as one can usually get exactly what they are after, saving where they can, spending where they want to. But these days, I point folks to the big mass producers (Dell, Lenovo etc.) or the mass sellers (Best Buy, Amazon etc.). You need to buy from someone who bought their components several months ago or have a really deep parts pipeline to save $ these days. Stick with a desktop, buy a video card which will support your application but maybe plan to upgrade later if needed, 8GB min of RAM (again upgrade later if needed) etc.

Feel free to post a config and have folks weigh in like you did in your original post. There is a lot of help available here. Good Luck!

"Supported" doesn't mean that FSX2020 won't work on it. I have a AMD CPU and a Nvidia RTX video card. FSX2020 on my setup works just fine. "Supported" just means you won't be able to get much support from Foresights Sports if there's an issue. However, let's be frank, it's doubtful you're going to get support either way looking at other people's support tickets raised with them.

Fair comment - as I mentioned above, many do make it work, some have issues. I am not an AMD expert so I am not sure how to navigate this - just pointing out the manufacturers recommendations.

For balance, I can say that I have never had difficulty reaching a Foresight rep for assistance. There are several (many) frustrating limitations of FSX2020 to be sure, but I have had a positive support experience the three of four times I have had to reach out FWIW.
