  • GC2 buttons not working....any help please?

    Hi all

The buttons on my gc2 do not work properly
it turns on by pressing the on button but it won’t turn off unless I hold the on/off button so I no longer see the “gc2 is shutting down” text. The up and down and light buttons do not work at all.

any ideas why the buttons are not working correctly?

    thanks

Take the cover off and you will see a ribbon cable next to the battery. There are two black tabs on the end of the connector that slide in and out. Make sure both are all the way in. That cable goes to the screen and buttons. If the tabs aren’t in all the way, maybe some of the buttons aren’t getting a good connection.

There’s another connector that is under the LCD and it has the same tabs. It’s a lot more difficult to get to though, and if the ribbon cable pulls out, it’s really tricky to get it lined back up. The buttons themselves are circuit board traces that get connected by the rubber getting pushed down, so there is no mechanical thing to fail there.

I’ve just tried that as well, took a while to get back in but it’s powered up ok. Any idea how much foresight would charge to fix the buttons and screen not working?

I had the same issue, first buttons stopped working , then screen display started showing weird lines, then screen stopped working altogether.I knew it was the ribbon but GC2 was still under warranty so I let Foresight do the fix. The fourth time it happened in 6 months they said they wanted £300 (approx $420) as it needed new screen. I just redid the cable connection myself and it’s worked fine ever since. So I guess you would be looking upwards of that price if you want foresight to fix.

Thanks for this. It was the ribbon, I reconnected it to the screen and it works fine today.

any tips to stop the ribbon falling out?

Not sure if my fix is the best method but I put a few blobs of hot glue on there. Andy is the expert so maybe he has a better suggestion. Not had the issue for a few months so fingers crossed it has done the trick.

I like the hot glue idea once you know it is seated properly! The main problem is that the battery wiggles and rubs the cable, so over time it works loose. I think how often it happens is largely dependent on how often you open and close and move around your GC2.
