I hit two balls yesterday with my 9 iron that had zero sidespin (otherwise normal numbers). Is this even possible or misread?

Anyone else get zero sidespin shots on GC2

If you manage to get the clubface pointed in the exact direction of your swing path at contact you get 0 side spin. This is physics 101 for hitting a golf ball. The thing that creates sidespin, particularly with an iron which has a very forward center of gravity, is the angular mismatch between the clubface and the swing path at contact. For woods, with a more reward center of gravity, there can be a horizontal gear effect on off center hits, which creates some sidespin no matter what the clubface and clubpath angular differential.Originally posted by Noobie View PostI hit two balls yesterday with my 9 iron that had zero sidespin (otherwise normal numbers). Can't say I've ever seen a 0 before... 25-50... Sure. Never seen a 0. Perhaps you were dead eye straight yesterday. I have seen the same numbers come up multiple times, so perhaps you found the right groove. Even chipping the ball well, I get some sidespin. I'd keep an eye on it.
